Just getting into the saddle game. I bought a tethrd phantom with 75' of predator rope in a package deal. I am not seeing a lot of folks using this rope for rappelling, but I plan to single stick climb and rappel. I have some rock climbing friends so I am going to try their atc and figure 8 devices before purchasing extra gear. If any of you are using the predator rope to rappel do you have any recommendations for autoblocks, prusiks or VT prusik material or pre-made loops?

I used 11mm predator rope, an ATC and the stick prussic from AeroHunter when I first started rappelling. It’s a great setup, just takes up space and is weighty. Heck, if you wear a pack just toss it in there and roll with it.

Great to here, I will be cutting 8ft or so off to make my linemans belt. At this point I do not have plans to go the mechanical route with safeguard etc, but if I ever decide to upgrade to a lighter 9mm rope most of the atc devices would work for both sizes right?

I believe predator is actually 11.4mm, which puts it out of spec for many mechanical devices. That's probably why it's not often used for rappelling. Plus all the cool kids are going with smaller diameter rope.

Loops are mostly used in rock climbing and have a limited number of hitches that can be used. Better functioning hitches are possible with the two eye versions, very easy to tie your own and you can make them the most optimal length for the hitch.

I bought 75' of predator rope to drt with. This was my first season hunting out of a saddle so I wanted to try some different climbing methods. I picked up a Black Diamond ATC-XP and a screw link to single stick and rappel with. I didn't have any issues with the predator rope working in the ATC even though it's .4mm out of spec. When it's time to rappell down, I use my lineman's belt to tie off and move the carabiner on my prussic from my bridge to a side loop and use it for the autoblock. It works fine other than the predator rope is kind of heavy. Like someone mentioned in previous post, all the cool kids are using smaller rope so I'll probably have to invest in some before next season.

So would it be totally a waste of time and money to use a Madrock safe guard and a ATC for rappelling down? If you use a rappel it’s etc up with the ATC what do you use once you are set up and attached where you want to hunt? Can a ATV work for that
