Much easier to see, thanks. I did think it was a Gen2 for a second but I’m sorry to say I’m not surprised the Gen1 is cracking like this seemingly all at once. Failures in construction among like-made items tend to fail in windfalls. We’re seeing that windfall now, unfortunately when it counts most for a hunter’s equipment to hold up. Sorry that happened on Day 2, bro. That’s a bummer. Tethrd should have overnighted you a replacement Gen2 so you can still hunt. I think it was Elite Archery who does/did that with bows, or gets you in contact with a dealer and sets you up to finish your hunt.

It is what it is. I know my luck so I brought I a backup plan.

Thanks for the follow up, glad to hear it wasn’t on the outside tip, at least it’s in the same spot..... I know it doesn’t help but sounds like you have a backup....

I tried to replace mine a month or so before an out of state hunt. I was told they wouldn’t replace it until it breaks.

It broke on day 2 of the trip.

Did they send a replacement?

I'm going on my second season with a gen 1 without any problems....so far. Don't toe hook at all, but I do cringe every time I step onto it. Yes I'm tethred in first. Feels like Russian roulette.

Pardon my ignorance- what is “Toe hooking”?

After getting on the platform you reset it.
Lift the platform with your toe and push down on the post with your other foot, then cam it back down. It will set the platform tighter against the tree. Use caution excessive pressure can damage platform or strap. I am not recommending you do this, just answering the question.

I am pretty sure that you want some play in the standoff so it can adjust to the tree. I cant speak for the broken ones, but if the owners cranked it down to tighten it up that would cause it to snap when it should be adjusting to the tree.

Yes, I agree. Some trees the standoff will go cockeyed and it should be that way.

I hope y'all are tethering in before stepping on your platform no matter if its a predator, homemade scooter platform or a ring of steps. I watched a youtube video of a saddle hunter that told everyone to set the platform up, stand on it, then tether in, I find that totally wrong and should be done in the opposite order. I think transferring weight from you sticks or steps to you platform is probably the most dangerous time.

Exactly! I don’t get the people saying how dangerous it is for a platform to break. You should always be tied to the tree whether in a saddle or treestand. The Predator is not a life saving device neither is a climbing stick, Perch, Stepps, or any other platform out there.

Agree with you, however, look how many people fall out of treestands on a yearly basis because they don't pay attention to detail.

People are throwing too many what ifs around. What if on the way to your hunt in the morning, your tranny locked up at 70mph, causing you to go into a skid and roll? It's happened, so maybe to be proactive some of you guys better start demanding new transmissions from your auto manufacturer. Sounds ludicris, huh? I'm no Tethrd apologist, however, some of the things I've read guys fabricating in their head makes me laugh. It's simple really, instead of wasting all this time typing what ifs, go put it on a tree and practice toe hooking it a few times like on the demo video (at ground level while you're practicing of course)......problem solved.

Yeah, it seems like some people are trying to find everything that could possibly go wrong with a product, exaggerate the heck out of it, and act all dramatic about it. You could slip off the platform a lot easier than it is to break one... Just double check your ropes, carabiners, and stay tied to the tree. If you fall you won’t get anywhere.

If it is broken they will replace it. Try a pm to @Erniepower

He used to be quick to respond

I have never read that they will replace a gen 1 that is not broken. Let us know if that is true. My platform has never broke but I do baby it

I thought I read that they would replace Gen 1 after the season. They did not say that they had to be broken.
