My predator platform seems to be making a clicking noise while moving around. I’ve checked it over numerous times and can’t seem to pinpoint what’s causing it. Any suggestions?
I’d prefer not to drill into it or anything. Im not the smallest dude, around 220lbs. I’d rather just purchase a different platform if I can’t get this one to act right. This evenings sit it was so loud I ended up standing on top of my lone wolf sticks, which sucked badly because it’s a single step. I need to figure this out ASAP. Just aggravating that I spent as much for that thing as some of my millennium lock on’s and I’m having problems with it.The ultimate fix for predator noise: https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/permanent-predator-noise-fix.11135/
I’m guessing gen 1 not 100% sureGen1 or Gen2?
The actual ultimate fix for the noise would be a lwcg .5. The ultimate hybrid setup.
That was a common problem with the gen 1. Me and my buddy had 4 of them and they all made the noise. One solution was to put bow string wax on the pivot bolt and that worked but I was not convinced the fix would be bomb proof in all conditions so we drilled out the hole and inserted the nylon bushings. It works really well.My predator platform seems to be making a clicking noise while moving around. I’ve checked it over numerous times and can’t seem to pinpoint what’s causing it. Any suggestions?
This is what I did before I ever hunted from mine. I've never had a problem with noise. That was a common problem with the gen 1. Me and my buddy had 4 of them and they all made the noise. KEEP ONE THING IN MIND IF YOU TAKE THE BOLT OUT... make note of the exact orientation of the nylon washers! They are tapered and they need to go on in a certain way. There were a lot of people who got a bit goofed up because they didn't pay attention to the washers.
I'm a big fan of my 3 predators. I love them...just had to remedy the noise.
I'm not sure if I agree. Sometimes the batwing isn't even making contact with the tree and the noises happen. The noise is coming from the pivot, not the batwing. At least that's the way it was with the predators that I've dealt with...4 of them. It’s because the bracket that bites into the tree pivots and moves. Buy a Lone Wolf bat wing and it will not move and makes it dead quiet.

My gen 1s make almost every noise known to man and they all came from the pivot. When we did the bushing fix, all noises went away without doing anything to the batwing. But hey, that was probably um-teen thousand predators ago that Tetherd has made. I can only speak of my personal experiences. Maybe there are other noise issues with the mid-date, or late manufacture date of them. I did have one gen 1 crack at the standoff and Tethrd stood behind the product, no questions asked. They sent me a new gen 2 just a couple months ago...so far this new one is dead silent (using the Tethrd batwing, too).“Clicking” is the metal to metal contact from the upper bracket moving. “Squeaking” is from what you are referring to.
if you have some amsteel laying around, try that in place of your strap, i use an amsteel daisy chain and the lack of stretch compared to the nylon cam strap took all noise out by keeping both teeth areas of the stand firmly stuck into the bark and not shifting
with some scrap amsteel, you could splice an eye and then wrap the amsteel behind itself on the post button so it locks itself upon camming the platform....allowing you to try this solution without making an entire daisy chain to do it, or do what i did the first time and steal a daisy chain from a climbing stick
Arguably, the thickness of the amsteel is less important ont your platform than your stick. On a platform, you're tethered in and really can't fall, just swing into the trunk. With a stick, if it fails the only thing holding you is your linemans belt and that'll let you slide down to the ground. What size amsteel did you use for your daisy chain? I've got 7/64 on my climbing sticks, but something about it makes me nervous on my platform.

Personally, I use 1/8" minimum for everything.
