Starting to build out meals for the season. I do use mountain house and other items but make my own as well.

These will be made in glad freezer bags with the zipper puller. Not cheap bags!

I'll drop the freezer bag into the mountain house bag I saved and cleaned. Add boiling water, seal, wait and eat. When done seal up the inner bag and throw it away.

Soon I'll begin also dehydrating leftovers to do the same.

My reason is that I get sick of eating pb and jelly. Lunch meat sandwiches I am not a fan unless it's a sub. They weigh a lot and use up a ton of space.

Yea the zipper pull bags aren't cheap but they're the best!

That will be nice to have variety from the mountain house. The stuff was good enough for me for a trip, but after eating it for 2 weekends my insides were definitely backed up a bit.

Are you putting the entire ziplock bag into the mountain house bag or dumping it?

How are you handling your garbage after you eat?

Have you thought of a fibre drink like Metamucil? It's powdered, light weight and may keep you regular.

Yeah I'm basically using the bag just to hold heat better. Another option I found that works is to take my pot and after dumping water in the bag stuck it back in the pot. At that point you can roll the bag top over the edge.

I stuff them all inside a used bag and bring them out or burn them when I have fire.

I eat like this in the woods even when I don't camp. Its always funny seeing people's faces if I do it at the car. One woman last season was jealous I was making coffee. I offered to make her a cup but she refused.

Ok cool.

That is too funny. She probably didn't trust this random guy she met in the woods offering her coffee....

You might be right. She was with three guys already though.

Yea, but did you take in to consideration how you looked? You weren't all rough after coming out of the backcountry for a few days were you?

Lol it was raining and I probably hadn't shaved in a week. Everything was solid ice that day, so I wasn't staying out. The wife sometimes comments if I don't shave, I'm not even a hairy dude lol.

Btw, don't try the loaded mashed potatoes. I tried those at work the other day. Plain with butter is probably better.

I put half a package in the bag. Poured one cup of hot water in and it came out just like home.

You don't need actual butter like the package suggests

Nice, good to know. I used to eat instant mashed potatoes all the time. They are definitely easy and a good option.
