Problem with Kong duck

I had my first hunt yesterday using the Kong duck, one on my Tether and one on my lineman’s belt. One of them worked flawlessly. The other one seem to bind up in the mechanism that clamps the rope, it was getting stuck in the open position and had to be manually clamped down on the rope. Not good. Today I put a couple drops of penn reel oil and worked it back-and-forth a bunch of times and now it seems to be working very smoothly. However, this one has an audible click when the mechanism is it fully opened. Apart from that it now seems to be working exactly the same as the other one. My inclination is to return it and get another one, does anybody have any experience with this?

I haven’t had that experience with my Kong Duck. I agree that returning it is the way to go. I would inform the seller that it is defective.

I had a second one fail toward the end of the season with the exact same problem again. Am I still the only person to experience this?

I had the same thing happen the first time I used mine. Thought I did something wrong but didn't want to take chances so went back to using a ropeman and a thicker/stiffer linesman rope. Oplux was too limp for a linesman anyhow.

Had the same issue.
I started post around the same time as your post In November.
3 Kong failures.
This should be a Sticky for future Users.

This is the biner I was using with the kong, which I believe is the one that kong recommends.

Never had any issues like this with my ducks. I would advise you to return it and get a new one. Yes, it is recommended that you use a oval carabiner with the ducks. It will allow the carabiner to fully rotate through the hole in the ascender and allow the carabiner to work in the strong axis.

When my Kong failed it was immediately replaced from DanO @ Doublesteps.
Replacement has and will Not be Used after these posts.
Im using the Kong oval Biner.

Watch Your gear and it’s Not a user error.

Three different users and it happened twice for bigbake with two different units. I bought mine last week of November through Amazon.

The two that failed for me were bought in October and November through amazon

Are you sure they’re real Kongs? There are a lot of knockoffs floating around Amazon and EBay, especially for broadheads. Wouldn’t put it past the Chinese to produce a knockoff of anything that is generating demand.

It came in what looked like the correct kong packaging. The device itself seemed to look right. It seemed legit but I guess if it was a really good replica it may have tricked me.

I'd contact kong, very well could be fake. There's fakes of about everything out there including spark plugs believe it or not. I kept fouling ngk spark plugs in dirt bikes, called NGK and they informed me and had me check a few things. Sure enough fake and came off Amazon

I wrote to Kong over the weekend via their contact us page and provided them with a link to this thread. You guys should write them as well.
