QAD hunter issues

Hey all, been a while. I did a search and didn't find this post anywhere. If I missed it I apologize just point me to the thread.
Recently I replaced my hostage rest with a QAD ultrarest hunter. It came highly recommended despite being the cheaper version of the rest. In the pro shop they set it up and I was getting a decent group. I got home fid some more practice and after maybe 9 arrows I noticed the felt on the rest was all but tore off. I put my wife's lipstick on the fetching and fired an arrow. Oddly there was lipstick on the right side of the felt but the left side was the side getting tore up. I drew back with the rest down to see when it came up and it's right at the end of my draw.

So my question: Has anyone else dealt with this and what was their fix?

The QAD Hunter came on my Hoyt Charger. I had issues with the rest bouncing back and contacting the arrow. Resulting in markings on my fletching and groupings all over the place. Some people suggested putting a piece of felt under the launcher or adjusting the timing. I could never get it to work for me and sold it. The launcher doesn't lock into place after the shot like the HDX model. I switched to a Smackdown Pro and my groups improved instantly. Personally, I would return it if you can and get the HDX or a limb driven rest. Probably not the solution you want.

Well, not the solution my pocketbook or wife would like. But I think you are right. It's that or stop messi g around with accessories and go trad. Lol

Mine would randomly rip fletchings off my arrows. Your cheapest option is probably a whisker biscuit. I went with a Hamskea Trinity.

Exactly what @BuffaloBill said,I had the same problem. I put some thin foam under the rest and it still bounced back up. I think it took a little over a week for the felt to be shredded. I bought the higher end qad rest and had no problems for the last couple of years...

Yeah not a fan of the hostage style rests. Was looking at the HHA Virtus but I don't think it locks down either. The other possibility I suppose would be going to a micro-diameter arrow with some of the more narrow vanes could just make it smaller and less likely to hit stuff. Seems like treating the symptom and not the problem though.

I used micro diameter arrows on the hunter rest...no dice.

Aaah.. well thank you that solves that problem.

If you have a draw board, I set mine up as follows:

crank to full draw, then let down 1 to 1.5 inches, while there, CAREFULLY adjust the cord so that the rest is as far up as it goes at that 1 to 1.5 inches away from max draw. NOT the white lines line up, but the rest stops being able to move at that location. Make the cord attach around right below your grip. But you can play with this location.

If that doesn't work, I'd guess it is a faulty rest or your bow really doesn't like it and it bounces. I had one of the cheaper, able to bounce ones and didn't have your issue. I then went to the higher dollar, no bounce one. It is still on my backup bow. My new bow has a Hamskea Trinity Hunter Pro.

I can't see anyway to easily trouble shoot whether the fletchings are hitting it before it drops OR after it drops but bounces up. I know the new iPhones have a slo mo video. That might be able to capture it.

Can anyone else think of a test to see if it is hitting before or after a bounce?

slow mo phone is it...

I just thought of a way.

Put something sticky (better if shock absorbing also) where the rest prongs will hit it and stick. Like some quality double stick tape (thick 3M stuff you can use to hang 30 lbs pictures outside in the rain off a wall).

If that stops the contact, then it was the bounce.

Of course, you probably don't want to hunt with the sticky stuff on your rest, but it might be a diagnostic.

@raisins that might be the ticket. I don't have a draw board but may make one. I did try the slo-mo and super slo-mo with someone else filming and it still wasn't slow enough. I like the tape idea as a diagnostic.

Vaportrail Limbdriver, QAD HDX, or Hamskea... I set these up daily, including the QAD Hunter, and there is a legitimate reason that the Hunter is less expensive. Save your money any way you want, EXCEPT your rest and your release lol.
