Quick detach drop pouch/dump pouch

Not to derail the thread, but how do you guys go without dump pouches? Like what's your system set up like? I feel like they're almost a necessity with how I have everything set up but I'd like to eliminate them if I could.

@Red Beard show em how to daisy chain a LB!

I have been anti dump pouch, from an aesthetic point of view. Haha I think they look so silly hanging off someone’s hips. But mainly, because I don’t see them being necessary. Most of the stuff that goes in them can go out of them (ropes), or in pockets or a small pack behind you.

I’m more accepting of them if they are within the hunter profile, but then they’re not easy to reach I guess.

side release buckles on paracord loops, girth hitched to the component and the thing you desire to attach the component to, are great ways for quick swaps. I plan to do a bunch of these this off-season.

My saddle rides in my pack, so the dump pouches really wouldn’t matter, but i got rid of them anyway. I only use a little DanO pouch to hold the squirrel steps when I climb, so they attach with some little side release buckles. The linesman gets gathered and tied with a small nite eyz. Rope pouch and main frame stay on the ground, the little pack is all that comes up the tree. Always learning from someone!!

Following someone else’s idea here (sorry old man memory) I moved my EWO fleece dump pouches to the waist belt of my pack. Simce I wear it while I climb, I have everything in there that can’t already live in the cargo pockets on my pants, and nothing pulling down my saddle.

Have any companies built a stretch panel which follows the contours of the saddle to the exterior of the saddle, almost like a kangaroo pouch, to stash all the goodies in?

any one tried using a thigh drop pouch or thigh molle platform? something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Condor-Outdoor-MA38-Drop-Pouch/dp/B00AC6PNGI?th=1

Some of my hunting pants have thigh cargo pockets and those are great for some gear, but not for things like a tether. Seems like good unused real estate. Might give this a go and take the dump pouches off the saddle

Personally I'm not a fan of thigh mounted anything. It flops around and catches on stuff when you're walking, and it makes eqch step just a little more awkward effort. I've schlepped thigh holsters, magazine subloads, and IFAKS on my thighs - not any more, they go on my belt or torso today.

Back in the 90s, the DOD (maybe USMC?) experimented with a super-battle-belt setup with what looked like butt bags mounted on thigh platforms. I remember seeing them for sale at Sportsmanship Guide, I lived in the Twin Cities and hit their retail location a couple times a year. I could tell why they canceled the experiment quickly. Gear mounted on your hips or back, you only move with your center mass. Anything mounted on your legs, you move with each step. Not sure if I'm articulating this right, but imagine moving a full Camelback bladder to your cargo pocket and going for a run.

Cargo pockets are rarely filled to capacity, so despite their size, they usually don't carry the same load as a dump pouch. So that's not an apples-to-apples comparison, to my mind.

The only thing that might work OK is something worn high on the thigh, like the HSGI Costa Leg Rig:

But I'm not sure how useful that would be for our purposes.

Don't let me talk you out of experimenting, though. If it works for you, rock on with it.

Totally right. I discovered I had a thigh holster stashed somewhere. The holster comes off and has a small molle panel as the mounting platform. I tried a few different pouches and, for the most part, anything bigger than a cargo pocket when loaded with much of anything was a hot mess. Not really worth some type of thigh rig since you couldn't carry much more than a carabiner or two, or something like a range finder.

So, back to the drawing board. I do like having quick access to my lineman's rope, some of the things in my SRT kit, etc., those have lived in dump pouches but trying to get away from those. Was thinking about a chest pouch that I could quick attach to the molle on my backpack straps. IDK. Most of what I feel like I want quick and easy access to does fit quite nicely in a single dump pouch though and the rest can come out of the pack once I'm where I going to hunt--either tree base before climbing or once at hunting height.....sorta think if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

May try one stick this year though and could see the value of a roll pouch for that.
