Absolutely do not buy any “quick links” for use in a life support situation from a hardware store, others will chime in real quick I’m sure, but the answer is no. Eastern Woods Outdoors sells Delta links rated for climbing along with other reputable online vendors that sell climbing gear, you want real quick links rated for climbing.
 
I can't say I would trust my life on links from the hardware store as I find it hard to trust tools from the hardware store!
 
They are pretty cheap online though. I got a delta link made by petyzl off Amazon for about 12 bucks, and it even has a bar to keep ropes separated to help alive cross loading.
