Quiet pants

I need to get some new hunting pants and I’d like some input from my beloved peanut gallery. I’d like something that is medium weight, soft, flexible, and completely silent. Numerous pockets would be a bonus. I’m probably going to have to order something online as there simply aren’t really any hunting stores nearby. There’s one last Mom and Pop hunting and fishing store about 20 minutes away; I’ll definitely make a stop by there soon just to check. But they generally don’t carry much clothing and are often priced 25-35% higher. My next best option is to drive 2 hours to Cabelas / bass pro. I honestly do t really care about camo pattern and may get a pair of carharts and dedicate them to early season - nice weather days. I’ve got a pair of kuiu attack pants that are great for windy or damp days - but they are nylon and make that noise when slipping through brush.

What do you guys all like for silent hubtinf pants?

I personally like the Sitka Apex and the New Sitka Endure pants. I also have a couple pair of the older Sitka Mountain pants which are durable and quiet.

Hard to beat wool when silence is a priority. I have a couple old woolrich pairs from the 1950s or 60s, one lightweight and one heavy set. I've had my eye on these for a while but haven't bought them yet.

I was looking for the same thing last season. I got a pair of Code of Silence pants last year and really liked them. I wore them as an outer layer from 60-40 then wore them under bibs after that. They are a quite merino blend, have good thigh pockets, zippered side vents, good durability through briar rose (minor, superficial pulling). I believe I saw a pair in the classifieds not long ago.

For the places I hunt is comes down to a trade off of how quiet I would really like vs quiet enough but also durable and not a burr magnet. The best I have tried are the sitka mountain pants but I like the looks of those code of silence pants ^^^. I have the Asio midweight sherpa pants and really like them as well. A couple seasons of wear shows them to be really durable and they are quiet but they are entirely too warm to wear until it gets cold.

Yes - wool is definitely a staple in my hunting clothing closet. I’ve had several pairs of big bill pants, which I like but wish they had more pockets and zip open vents.

If your as anal as I am about noise nothing that Sitka, FL or any of the other name brands make will be quiet enough. Your best bet is wool or the SL pants below. They are the only thing I have found comparable to wool in quietness.

Depending on what the temps are, I’ve used Wrangler ATG Cliffside pants in early season. Dead silent and also very breathable. The first lite 308 pants are solid but usually I’m wearing their Origin pants with or without base layers until temps get below 50°. Then I switch to the 308 lined with or without base layers. Once the cold arrives (below 30° usually) I switch to KUIU proximity pants. Thinking of getting the new Code of Silence VTSS cold weather pants thought.

I wore the Badlands Rise Pro Pants last year, and I was pretty happy with them. I have some "regular" fleece pants too, but I hate burrs, and they are magnets for that...

I have tried several of the recommendations above and either sold them because they were too loud or kept them but only use them in very specific circumstances. The last deer I shot with my recurve was so close I could hear her chew and swallow. I turned 180 deg on my platform while she was feet from my tree. I couldn't have done that with pants that had a windproof membrane or a material that doesn't collect burs. But those are the tradeoffs you have to personally weigh.

Unless iits raining really hard or crazy windy I want truly silent pants. Wool has been a go to for tracking and still hunting but it’s not awesome in a tree stand as the wind just blows right through. I have a pair of under armour scentlock pants that I LOVE because they are silent, soft to the touch, flexible and have just enough wind resistance to be good in a tree stand on your average day. But my current pair needs more and more mending every year and im sure their time is limited. I will defintely check out the scent lock pants you suggested.

The prices on a lot of the hunting pants is INSANE!!

Midwayusa.com store brand (sort by brand). It goes on insane sale in the summer. It is very high quality for the price. I go the route of having at least 3 of everything cheaper that I wear regularly so I always have a clean pair. I almost always wear bibs. When it is warmer, I wear Natural Gear uninsulated overall type bibs. When it is colder, I switch to Midwayuse bibs. I have various thicknesses. I only spend big money on clothes where I feel I'm getting a lot more for it (Stormy Kromer rancher hat, alpaca socks, boots, rain wear, down mid layers) but I'm not going to spend a lot on basic fleece outer layers with pockets. Sitka, etc does not have secret materials and most of the designs of various premo brands were lifted from the hiking/outdoor industry anyways.

I have spent a lot of money looking for a completely silent midweight jacket/pants and still haven't found one. I've owned a Sitka Stratus set, Huntworth Elkins set, Cabelas Wooltimate set, FL Challis jacket, as well as several others. Some are quieter than others but, none are completely silent. If you find the mythical windproof and silent midweight set please let me know.

Absolutely - the thing about the outdoor wear industry is it’s dominated by noisy polyester stuff holds body odor and often amplifies it.

When I can, I often use hiking and not hunting brands because hiking brands go on sale and are featured at deep discount sites (steepandcheap, etc) and also a lot of times it's better for the price. But there are downsides for some items at times. I think it is weird when people think they have to buy a hunting brand to hunt with it, as if hiking brand base layers aren't as suitable for hunting as something from a brand known for only making hunting stuff.
