I know these 2 saddles are basically the same type of 2 panel saddle. The only noticeable difference I can see is the ESS has an aluminum circle type of bridge connection and the Recon has a more square/flat slotted bridge connection.

What are the noticeable differences in function between the 2 metal bridge connections?

The Recon has a rubberized coating making them quieter then the ESS if they hit each other, carabiner, ropeman, etc.

I have the ESS and love it. I have made some modifications to mine. Switched to a diy utilibridge and folded up the leg straps and don’t use them. I’ve used the ESS and a DIY wraptor saddle and loved it also. I don’t think you can go wrong with a 2 panel saddle. Here’s a good comparison between the two by a forum member.

I took the rubber coating off my recon bridge plates. Seemed like it was making a rubbing squeak noise that went away after I did that. I like my recon. It's inexpensive and easy to use.

I had the ess a week and absolutely hated it. Extremely loud and clanky. There is no way in no universe John himself would hunt with such a loud thing. I also didnt find it user friendly at all even with the clips provided
