Yeah I can get .30-06 around here for about that. They aren't as hard to find. .308 is almost impossible though. It’s wood and 30.06

Just curious, there is not a dimes worth of difference in the ballistics between the two, why .308?Yeah I can get .30-06 around here for about that. They aren't as hard to find. .308 is almost impossible though.
I have an old 03 Mark 1 that will shoot a 3/8’ group with handloads, and as you say heavier bullet options tilt towards the .0630-06 handles heavy bullets better than 308. That might be a factor if a moose is in your future.
I already own 2 guns chambered in .30-06 and none in .308, so .308 naturally was my interest and the ballistics vary depending on the round anyways. I've really always just wanted to own a .308 though because like I said I have .30-06 and also have a .270.Just curious, there is not a dimes worth of difference in the ballistics between the two, why .308?
I understand, I have friends that like a variety when it comes to calibers. I used a .357 Airgun to hunt one season, before I sold it.I already own 2 guns chambered in .30-06 and none in .308, so .308 naturally was my interest and the ballistics vary depending on the round anyways. @bj139 I already have my moose gun, that drops em dead and I can speak from experience! 2018 moose dead in its tracks. I have a Remington .300 Ultra Mag that is devastating. I made the mistake of shooting a deer with it that year also, thank god I shot it in the neck because there was a softball sized hole.
