Replacing bridge, what is your favorite?

Since you are using dynamic rope, have you considered using a dynamic friction hitch as well? Bluewater makes some if 6.5mm which would be perfect on 8.9mm rope, you can buy presewn for prusiks or I believe a small reel. They do not sell it by the foot though

I had looked at that a few days ago. I wasn't sure how it would do for our application(s). Of course I think I'm one of the few that wants to use a dynamic rope.

There just doesn't seem to be a lot of choices in 6mm(ish) cordage.

It’ll work good in our application since you are pairing it with dynamic rope

I used a sling as a bridge this last year, girth hitched on the one side, biner on the other end, the thinner profile of the narrower webbing allowed me to slide it easier inside my tether carabiner, but allowed me to open the bridge for ease of putting it on. probably my favorite bridge ive found so far, tbh adjustable bridges are nice for different situations, but i rarely used it. a fixed bridge of the desirable length is superior. if i wanted to shorten the bridge, i could remove the girth hitch and basically fold the sling in half over the other bridge loop, and a 22in bridge turns to about a 12 in bridge.

like this a lot!

1/4" Amsteel for me, DIY style like the utilibridge from Tethrd - Only true reason is the breaking strength, but I'm the type who over engineers everything

Before I pull the trigger, I'm looking at doing a dual adjustable bridge with Samson Ultra-Tech and Beal Cordelette from EWO. Anyone have experience with this combo? Any issues with it?

The UltraTech has a Technora core which wears out easily when used as a bridge, the damage is hiddened by the cover. Failures while in use have been reported.

I’ve used amsteel, oplux, and webbing. I find there are pros and cons to each. I will say that I think webbing bridges with a tri-glide are underrated. My flat Branch saddle had a webbing bridge and they are quite nice in the amount of resistance they provide while pivoting.

If I had to pick, I’d likely go with oplux with a prusick, but I can diy 1/4 amsteel so it’s more affordable…

Thanks for the warning. I ordered some 8mm Samson accessory cord, EWO was out of Oplux. I couldn't find the specs on the accessory cord but I expect it's nylon or polyester and should hold up just fine as a bridge.

It has a 3500 lbs. break strength, Oplux is 5400. Plus there is no cut resistance of dyneema or Technora, like the Oplux, only made of nylon.

Watching this, I have the amsteel bridge on my XC, once it gets tight, it’s damn near impossible to undo. Plus stepping through the bridge in big clunky boots isn’t always fun.

The clunky boot thing is pretty easy, just put the saddle on by placing the bridge over your head instead of stepping through it…

I did that the other day, it works, just looking to try other options as well.

Have you explored an openable bridge? There are a couple threads on this site about it

I dove down the rabbit hole earlier today, I’m going to try it for sure. I just received a set of first lite suspenders. Those things just made my day. I suffer from no @$$ at all syndrome and they just changed the game. I can see them being even better with and openable bridge.

Figured I'd provide an update. This is my removable bridge, it has zero knots. The only thing that might change is the hitch cord. I have Sterling 7mm being patterned and strength tested in a sewn eye to eye. Should have the results soon. I do prefer the Sterling as it's more supple and bites very well. I did a lot of testing with that cord and decided to bite the bullet to have it actually strength tested to see the results.

If I change from a dynamic bridge it will be done identical except using Sterling 9mm HTP as that is my preferred static bridge/lineman rope.

My linesman is identical to this minus the captive eye carabiner. This lets me use it as a redundant bridge then I rappel from that. My main bridge is then connected to my hitch of choice as a backup.

This setup is not for people who like cheap. However everything is climbing rated ((not ANSI, as my bridge rope is a few hundred pounds off and is the weak link there (4,700-4,800lbs)).

I just added 2 rated climbing slings - a shorter one for ascending/ rappelling and a longer one for sitting/ leaning at height. They are both girth hitched at one side and they share a carabiner on my other saddle loop. Unclip one and clip they other always connected. I usually have used an adjustable bridge on my rec as well as my work saddle but on my hunting saddle I only need the two settings for my application. These are rated at 27kn and 24kn made by Yates and Blue Water Ropes. Super lightweight and strong and slide through my swivel very nicely.
