Ridge Runner

After going back and forth between DIY, the podium, RR and predator. I opted for the RR. I can be handy, but a DIY under my 230-240lbs and hearing how the LW seat is not very strong, I eliminated that. The predator takes too long to get, the podiums adjustment bolts seem like a pain when the temps in WI start to plummet. Yeah the $20 shipping is annoying but in the end I trust the design can safely hold me.

I went with the podium and I'm extremely happy with it, the only thing I changed is that I lashed one of the ends of the versa strap using common whipping and some very small paracord to permanently attach one end to the platform.

Other than that its very well built and very solid on a tree. No regrets about that purchase.

Even if it was factored in, there’s still the $10 off coupon on Tethrd so it’s 170 shipped. In the end I’ll probably just build my own. I just thought $20 shipping for something that weighs 3lbs didn’t make much sense

The ridge runner will not fit in a large flat rate USPS box. The box they ship it in is about 30% larger than needed which jacks the price up.

When it comes to shipping costs the little guy gets screwed. High-volume shippers get dirt cheap pricing which is largely subsidized by the low volume shippers who pay through the nose.

Amazon has made people expect a lot from the little guy

Can someone give me an idea of the largest diameter tree they have used this on?

I can measure and let you know but the stock cinch strap can go around a pretty big maple that I practice on. It’s about as big as the strap will allow. But I’m going away from the cinch strap anyway and using either 6mm rope or 1/4 amsteel so then you can make your rope longer if you want.

You're right that it's high for a 3 pound item but I gladly paid the $20 for the 2 week shipping time from OOAL vs the 6 week shipping time from Tethrd. I also considered building my own but figured by the time I was done aquiring materials I'd end up spending more than I wanted to anyway.

@Flee @Bow13 the RR strap that comes with it is a bit over 5' in length, giving you a tree circumference of 5' for maximim tree width. you can grab any length of rope and measure 5 fee and make a circle to see how big of a tree that is, and if that will work for you. Honestly though, how many trees are you going to climb that are that big 20' in the air...

Is it really free shipping? Or is it just factored into the price?

The Ridge Runner is $160 + $20 shipping. $180 total.
The Predator is $180 + $0 shipping. $180 total.

Most of the platform or ROS options are in the mid hundred range. It's probably best to get what works well for you instead of getting something for the cost, deciding it's not ideal, then spending more money to get what you really wanted.

Biggest difference I see is that the Predator stays locked when and if you take weight off it - the other model tends to pop back up. May not be a big issue but I like my platforms to lock in and stay there.

This happens if you tighten the strap too much before camming it down. you want a snug strap but not completely tight to the tree, than you LIFT on the platform before camming it down to help lock it in. If you don't lift it up you see this issue where the platform wants to come back off the tree high, that's due to improper camming and locking on the tree.

Could be - just see it a lot in the many videos. Like i said, it may not be a problem, esp if you never leave the platform..

Seems they are running just a bit behind their 2 week timeline. Was hoping to have mine by Sunday, but fingers crossed it arrives by next weekend. Heard they had an issue with freight delivery running behind schedule and that’s holding them up

Ordered mine on 9/25 so we are at 16 days now and no shipping notification. Not that big of a deal to me as long as I get it in the next week or two my ring of steps will do until then.

I ordered on the 25th too. I was told they might not have their freight shipment until Monday. If that’s the case it could be another week or two

Thanks for the update I’m not the type to call or email when it gets here it’s here

I ordered mine on the 27th. I haven't got anything other than the email saying my order was processing when I placed the order. So I emailed them yesterday. I got an automated email saying they were hoping to get materials in today (Friday) and if so, they would be shipping Monday. I know it will come eventually but I would hate to have to wait another 2 weeks.
