Road King to Colorado

I know you're heading for a destination so you might not be interested in side trips but Brown County State Park in southern Indiana offers some really nice riding and sounds like it's kind of on your way. Any chance I get to ride down there, I jump on it. Lots of beautiful country down that way.

Side trips are exactly what I'm looking for. I have 4-5 days to get to Colorado Springs and I like to see places I've never been. That park wouldn't be too far out of the way if I re-route the first leg of my trip. I may have to check it out...thanks!

If you get to Taos it’s a pretty cool town, then you can go by Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado on your way to or from Colorado Springs

I looked at Taos online and it does seem like a cool place. I might swing through Carson National Forest too...thanks for the tip!

Taos Ski Valley is cool. I used to go hiking there a bunch at Williams Lake. Its sort of a box canyon/ bowl with a lake at the bottom of some 12-13k foot peaks. Not sure you want to do any hiking, but it's worth the walk.

Thanks for the tip @ricky racer. I went through there this afternoon. Really nice ride, reminded me of Mohican State Park in Ohio. That's a great ride if you ever go that way. BTW, I was right in front of that "Story Inn" you sent a picture of, looking at directions on my phone. I should have taken a picture there.

When I got back from Desert Storm I had 56 days leave built up. They stop giving it to you at 60 days so I had to burn some. I took 28 days and tossed a tent, Coleman stove and a sleeping bag in my truck and took off.

I tried to cross Texas, but damn man, there’s only so many red rocks and mesquite you can look at before you lose your mind. I pulled out the atlas and found the shortest route out of Texas and that was US 285 to Carlsbad. From then I never drove at night and refused interstates.

Went to Carlsbad Caverns, RMNP, Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone NP and all kinds of other random stuff like Billy the Kids grave, some damn ghost town in Idaho, the great divide basin in WY, etc. it was a great trip.

Have fun and interact with the locals.

Yes sir, I am very happy to get some time with my son and make a great road trip out of it too. I try to do one trip a year, what better way to spend it?

What branch, MOS/rate for Desert Storm?

Much love for SAR swimmers brother!

I went through the Land Between the Lakes today...pretty ride. I stopped at Graceland because I didn't know of anything else to do in Memphis. And now I am in Tunica, Mississippi. Still have a long way to go. I seem a to be averaging about 400 miles/day so far. There's a new KING at Graceland!
