ROS

For all you ROS experts and guys with years of use. Maybe this is stupid but where do you place the buckle? I was playing with my ROS the other day and place it between my legs in a normal position and wondered if anyone’s ever accidentally opened their OCB buckle with their feet. Thanks!

I place the buckle about 2:00. It's in a good position to leverage it over with my right hand it's between the two steps I use the least. I have never kicked the buckle open but, have read about one or two incidents where people have.

thanks! The between your least used steps is a great idea. I wasn’t super worried about it. I’m obviously always tethrd in and I never place my platform, ROS out of reach of my top step in case of a fall.

Guys using ROS with one stick and top platform. Are you strapping your stick with the steps?

I place the buckle between my legs, and over the top of my stick. I use the top of my stick and 4 steps around the tree as my “ROS”

I do the same. The buckle ends up being at the 2:00 position so I can keep the strap tight with my left hand and can it over with my right.

I strap separate. I put my strap for my ros just above my platform. This allows the steps to just sit higher then my Amsteel on my stick so I don’t pinch it or anything. The steps end up the same height as my platform. I put my buckle at 4:30ish. Never popped it off.

I place the buckle in the least traveled area, somewhere between the 12 and 2 o'clock positions so there is very little chance of my foot coming in contact with the buckle.
And yes a few years ago a fella on here did post about knocking his buckle open and dropping himself. If I remember right he had the buckle near the step his foot was mainly using.

Honestly, that's why I don't talk about it much anymore unless someone asks me or gets me fired up lol. You can only have the same debate so many times.
I have noticed that ros takes less pressure of my knees ,as my stance is wider and my knees aren't on the tree as much .I never did cant my stand either just kept it flat

I just spent a lot of money on Cranfords. I like to prep trees with bolts when I can and found the Cranford screw ins interesting. So I ordered 50 last week and their Scaffold ring of steps with two extra steps to make it six steps. My plan is to carry the scaffold with me to my prepped trees.

Anyone using the treehopper ROS is the angle any problem with your feet?

5 Treehoppers, It’s not a problem for me. I’m 5’10 around 160# , size 9.5
Bulk is often mentioned on here as major downside. They do not pack/ carry as well as Squirrels steps do.

Been using the Mission and Perch thus far and this morning I was mountain biking in and thought I'd just bring with 4 Bullman steps for my platform. I was actually a lot more comfy than I thought I would be! Got home and ordered 2 more without straps to throw on. Think I will be using the ROS as a platform more often moving forward.

I know I'm likely in the minority here using both ring of steps and a platform, but I found out this weekend that if I put the ROS on first, and then the platform (mission but I assume it'll work for most platforms, just be careful to not get the strap in a place where it'll get pinched when setting the platform) directly on top of it (so the buckle is behind the post) then the post will keep the ocb from coming open all the way accidentally. I also run the straps in opposite directions and have enough tag length to tie them together for added redundant security. When I get more comfortable with the ocb in the tree I may stop all this but felt good for the first hunting use after practicing in the yard.

Any one run a ROS in tandem with LWHC? I dont like how loose a cam cleat 1 stick is as a platform so might go back to LWHC for a last go but I remember it also being so loose and spongy when putting on side pressure. Any good way to have a ROS lock the lwhc down? Or just put up ROS then climb to just under the ROS for 360 shooting?

not the solution you asked for but could you add a versabutton above the cam cleat? use the cleat for one sticking up and then rope mod to button at height?

That might work to hold it steady. Would prob be best with a cam buckle to tighten it down on the versabutton but kinda over 1 sticking going on 2nd season with it.
