Saddle and Crossbow

Anyone had experience with xbow and a JX3 hybrid? Trying to decide if a reverse draw would be better then a regular. Either way, seems shorter ATA cocked and uncocked would be an advantage.

Check out some of my earlier posts with pics on using crossbow with saddle: #4,8,1,12 in this thread I think. They may be of some help.

I would think reverse draw would make the issue worse (although I'm not 100% sure of this....I think the way you shoot sitting in the JX-3, the cams in a reverse draw would be at more risk of hitting the tree than a standard...). I hunted all last season in with a Ravin plus JX-3...avoiding the tree was not an issue...but it definitely would be with a larger bow. For example, the R10 is 6 inches cocked and 10 uncocked. So, each cam is going to move 2 inches wider when you pull the trigger. You just need to make sure you have 2 inches on whatever side the tree is on.

I would recommend a Ravin or some of the new 10 points that are very tight ATA...I think it's worth it. Or, you could go with the hickory creek mini...that will eliminate this issue altogether but there are other disadvantages with that bow that I didn't like.....there are tons of hickory creek fans on here....people seem to love it....i didn't.

I don’t switch from righty to lefty. I move around the tree on my steps. I use mostly preset trees with Crawford EZY climb deluxe steps. Pricey but safer and more comfortable.

Like we did it in the old days! Nice...

Really enjoyed reading these post. I will be tree saddle hunting next year and am in the process of making my own Anderson style saddle and getting my equipment together. I have an Excaliber Bulldog 380 crossbow that I plan on using. I also have an almost new Parker Thunder Hawk that I purchased about 5 months before they went belly up. Bought the bow and when I went on line to register for the warranty got an email telling me they were going out of business in 5 months and would not stand behind the bow after that. PO'd me big time. Reason that I bought it in the first place was because I had been using for years the Parker Feather Grade vertical bow and they always fixed any problem, only needed warn cams, quickly and I could get strings from them quickly. From problems others had I know they fixed them with no problem. I shot the Thunder Hawk some and it shoots good but then I came into the Excaliber at a great price and it is SO MUCH simpler to maintain and shoots SO FAST and accurate. It is a bit heaver and wider though. After I get my stuff together I will be doing a bunch of testing and shooting to see what works for me. There are some VERY GOOD ideas in this post, thanks.

shot a turkey & a big deer from a saddle with xbow This year. Piece of cake. I just hung it from the front metal loop on an opened up S Biner (not a weight bearing one). The biner hangs on the pack hanging rope. BAC7D916-3A6F-4891-A405-2513F584AE2F.png

Sure seems like an Xbox would be tuff to handle. I picked up a Bow a few years ago after a guy got to close to a tree and broke a limb.

I HUNT WITH A xbow. As I explore the idea of saddle hunting, I am finding it difficult to find any videos or info on folks who use a crossbow from the saddle. I would really love any insight, feedback, or links to videos of folks using a xbow from a tree saddle. What I have seen looks like it is a wonderful way to hang out in a tree, but I don't want to invest in a system that leaves me restricted when the elbow flares up. Thanks!!!
No reason to ever justify the reason for using a crossbow or anything for that matter. I fixed your post for you!
So I hunt with a xbow. I found something that really works for me is a monopod called the hip shot. It is solid like a normal monopod, compact and light. I found that when I put into my hip I can even still move around the tree or adjust for the shot while the xbow is shouldered and steady. I also use this with rifle out of the saddle it works perfectly!

I am a long-time xbow user and Lonewolf hand climber. I'm new to saddle hunting this year. I am always on the lookout and testing shooting rest while in the tree. A heavy option is an Oak Sturdy. A lightweight, packable option is the East TN Outfitters TREEPOD

2nd time out in the saddle resulted in harvesting a Doe. Leaning from the tree to lock in my body made zero issues taking a clean shot.

I’ll probably give the xbow a go on the state land this late season. I never took a xbow up with the saddle or on state land. I think I look past it because of all the gear I already have on my back, to try to sling a xbow over your shoulder would be not possible. I have all my stuff in my backpack and run my compound over my shoulder or hold the bow backwards with the stabilizer running up my forearm. It’s pretty slick

I hunt out of the saddle a lot with my crossbow. Just like any other time hunting I position myself in the direction I know the deer are probably going to come from. Like others have mentioned just watch your limbs. If you have the means I would go with a more compact bow or the hickory creek mini vertical as it can be tricky moving a larger bow over the bridge, a lot of movement with mine.

I have used a crossbow while saddle hunting. But I bought a Hickory Creek Vertical crossbow which is awesome for saddle hunting. But you can use a crossbow just watch your limbs don't hit the tree when shooting.
