Saddle and Crossbow

From time to time an old injury in my elbow makes me resort to a xbow. As I explore the idea of saddle hunting, I am finding it difficult to find any videos or info on folks who use a crossbow from the saddle. I would really love any insight, feedback, or links to videos of folks using a xbow from a tree saddle. What I have seen looks like it is a wonderful way to hang out in a tree, but I don't want to invest in a system that leaves me restricted when the elbow flares up. Thanks!!!
I got a xbow for you, I have it set up with a vortex red dot and a HHE range slide. you can hold it 1 hand, cock it with hands (150lb), and if i'm not mistaken, it is the lightest 1 u can buy. It works PERFECT out a saddle. its actually pretty bad azz, I just always pick up my bow instead of the xbow. -hickory creek mini inline (brand), check out youtube videos I got it for sell in the classifieds

What about a mono pod that rests on your hip?

@rutjr did that stick come with that xbow? I'm looking for something like that and am having a hard time finding what I want.

I don’t switch from righty to lefty. I move around the tree on my steps. I use mostly preset trees with Crawford EZY climb deluxe steps. Pricey but safer and more comfortable.

you are going to be happy. Just spend a little time figure out how you want to hang your bow so it is safe, and you can get to it easily.

Great thread! Thanks for all the hints. I am new to saddle hunting and will be shooting a Ravin R9. I have been up in a tree in the back yard but haven't taken the crossbow up yet. Waiting on a platform. It is encouraging to hear the success stories. I will be practicing shots at the bag and 3D buck from different positions. Hopefully I can get comfortable shooting quickly.

will be my first time to with a saddle and intend to use my RTX400 from it. Never thought of a few things mentioned here. would also like more information on climbing methods, and what to get for a platform.

Climbing methods, platforms, ring of steps, etc. All these are highly subjective. If you're made of money, buy one of each and try them all. If you're like most of us, you'll buy one of each anyway, but it'll take you a few years trying them one at a time! It's all good. Just pick something and try it out. There's good opportunity to resell on this site if you want to try something else. And you will want to try something else. If you're innovative enough to try a saddle, you're too innovative to stick with the first setup you try. There's just too many awesome options!
I went from climbing stands to hang ons, to 5 sticks & a saddle, to 3 sticks, to one stick... and this year I'll be using NO sticks. (Climbing with a rope wrench and rope walking system using a DIY platform (Slomo style) and rappelling out of the tree.
The biggest thing is to practice, practice, practice with whatever gear you choose. Practice about a foot off the ground until you gain some proficiency. If you're too undisciplined to do that, take your cell phone up the tree with you so you can call your wife or somebody when you get stuck in the tree. Seriously. Practice close to the ground. And practice starting NOW, if you want to kill deer this season.

You can't go wrong with climbing sticks. Once you get comfortable with them, you'll likely start experimenting to get higher, lighter, faster, quieter, and easier. I will say that I think it's a great idea to have a double step on the top of your stick. If your sticks don't have a double step on top, Dan O at https://doublesteps.com has them. He has a lot of really good stuff for saddle hunters.

Has anyone tried shooting the crossbow from a sitting position? It seems that you might be able to rest your support elbow on the knee.

I have only ever shot my Hickory Creek Vertical Crossbow from a sitting position with my target at 5 o'clock. I am right handed. I held the buttstock in my left hand and the pistol grip in my right and twisted to the right a little. It worked.

I was playing with it but it seems like it might take a little more movement to get in the proper position than using the bridge or against the tree for support while leaning or standing.

Anyone had experience with xbow and a JX3 hybrid? Trying to decide if a reverse draw would be better then a regular. Either way, seems shorter ATA cocked and uncocked would be an advantage.

I have used an Excalibur micro. You do have to lean out from the tree and make sure the limbs don’t hit the tree. It works but you do need to be aware of the limbs

I switched to the hickory creek crossbow to eliminate that issue

I think @hambone has a video taken from an action cam mounted on his xbow from this year. There are several members that hunt with xbows without any issues. Only thing to watch is your limbs are clear of the tree, other than that it's a piece of cake.
It is what i will be using!
