Saddle Back support strap

I went to the army/navy store and got the lower belt off of a frame pack. put two hooks on the end and put some loops on the top loops of the sit/drag. The belt has side adjustments so I can fit it just right! I won't hunt out of a sling type saddle without some type of back support.

Interesting. I'm almost positive that I'd use one on a regular badis. I was just wondering about a back strap with a little more support. If I could rig up something off of a harness like this. View attachment 5433

That way the weight is distributed a bit more....but again, I've never used the typical back strap so maybe it will be sufficient. Just a thought. Thanks for all the replies!

I tried it briefly in my trophy line. It did work. I did not make it adjustable. May try that with a prussik

Simple and light is the best. I used an old camera strap for a long time. It was a little too thin and got uncomfortable after a while. I'd just adjust it and be good for a while longer.

It's a must for me . I had a burst fracture of the L4 almost 2 years ago and a back band is what can help my back from getting sore.

FWIW - in the process of using a MOLLE harness ($5) as suspenders attached to my wait belt on my saddle. I can unclip the front two clasps and hook them to prussiks on my bridge. Pics when I am done. This way my saddle, ropes etc are carried on the MOLLE harness and I do not need to carry anything extra.

This sounds interesting, looking forward to pics.

OP, I find the back support strap to be the piece that makes the saddle significantly more comfortable than a traditional stand. I can basically "unload" weight that normally goes through my spine and carry that weight with the strap. I've even entertained the idea of installing hardware above my computer desk to facilitate hanging a saddle there, it's that much better.

When I hunted out of the sit drag I also used a couple of the extension straps for really hot weather and short sits and they worked fine as well.

The back and in the Kestrel is very padded and supportive. It does not dig in or cut, there are no hot spots. I feel a good pressure up under my arm pits and back, it is very comfortable.

Just wanted to throw this in the ring. In addition to losing some weight, incorporating a 2 minute plank into my morning regimen has helped TREMENDOUSLY with saddle comfort.
The plank is under utilized for sure, a great movement for strength all the way around. And 2 minutes, thats legit!

What sucks is it never gets easier. Even if you rest a week and come back to it, 2 minutes is still tough. The first minute is easy peasy, but about 10 seconds into the second minute it's like somebody flipped the switch.

Doing planks made my saddle more comfortable, my kayak stroke more efficient, and my bow draw easier. Pretty dirt-simple way to upgrade yourself.

@g2outdoors had one I believe was made from a binocular strap. I have the kestrel with backband. I used two sit drags and one I would up for back support. It made a difference for me.

The sitdrag didn’t seem to bulky for a back support? I may have to find someone getting rid of a dirt cheap sit drag and try this because I rly need to find a good back band option

I sat in my RC harness sitdrag combo for the first time this past weekend. I didnt think it was that comfortable. Im hoping I can come up with a back support myself to make it more pleasurable. I was also surprised to find myself a “sitter”. Molle waste belt sewn to a strap might work.

Sit drag bulky? More so that the kestrel back band yes. You could move it down around your kidneys for just a little back support or up to your arm pits and lay back. You could make a back support with a kids old backpack strap. Doesn’t take much.

Waist belt would work well.

Does anyone use the back support strap that came with the Sit-drag? That seems like the easiest option, at least until you decide whether or not the back support works for you. I did my first hour in my Sit-drag this weekend and didn't use any back support. I did lean into the tree though, and can't envision leaning back much.
