Saddle Comfort regarding legs and hips after Surgery

Ill start this thread off by saying I am completely new to saddle hunting and I'm looking to start trying it out. I am a large individual 5'10" 280lbs. and I found several of the threads by other large hunters very helpful. My main concern with saddle hunting is comfort in my legs and hips. Last year I broke my femur/hip and had surgery resulting in about a 10" plate and 4 pins running down the exterior side of my leg. I've had a full recovery and currently don't have any limitations.

My main question is if anyone has experience with saddle hunting after hip/leg surgery? Do you experience any further discomfort/pain? Any other info regarding saddle type or comfort suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks for the input! Ill put the JX3 on my short list!

Do you use a hang on? I had hip surgery too. But im 160 lbs. Cant imagine what its like shimmying up a tree with that much weight and a bum hip. Props to you man. My surgery was for a labram tear and they shaved a big groove in my femur. Didnt help much. I drink kratom for the pain. Helps alot.

I have used hang on stands primarily in the past. This past season I took it easy and used the permanent stands on private land, which was a drag because i'm a 5hr drive from our private land. Spent more time in a car than a tree. I have full strength back in my leg and have been looking at maybe trying SRT as well, but first things first I need to get a saddle and try it out.

Use this link to find a saddle Hunter near you. Maybe you can test one out before you buy.

Also tethrd is doing TNT (teach-N-train) events across the U.S.

So I decided to do a quick test run with a sit drag to see if a more "traditional" type saddle will cause any problems. Figure if I can sit in it about 2'-3' up a tree for an hour or so without major discomfort it will be a good start. I did read the 40+ pages on the JX3 tho and it took all I had not to pull out my wallet and spend the cash.

Do it. I’ve owned four different saddles now and the comfort was OK. I could sit for three or four hours and be moderately comfortable. However after buying the JX3 Hybrid I can sit all day with no problem. I sit longer and see more deer on public land now. The other thing is I am no longer looking for a saddle I have found the perfect one.

yep definitely JX3 I have had nothing but great sits in my brand new JX3 this past fall. And before this a Guidos web was what I had. a And this is such a great improvement over the web.

I still like a compact saddle for short sits or run and gun or making presets. That said the JX 3 is my favorite saddle. I have a flex and will be trying a tree hopper sling and maybe the phantom
If you have hip issues you will love the Jx 3
It is a fine ground chair too

From what Ive seen the JX3 looks like the best option for me, just need to save up a couple pennies. Fell down the rabbit hole on some sitdrag modifications by other members and decided to give that a try as well. For the price of the sitdrag I can at least test out the feel and end up with a very lightweight solution for ground hunting during rifle season.
