Saddle Jacket choices

Exactly my thought. Adjust your saddle for your pockets?

They don't sell saddles, and don't seem to have a plan to adjust their coats to that market. So it's in their mind good business to say that it can be done as is....except it gonna piss off customers to be told they aren't doing it properly.

I ended up buying the Huntworth Saskatoon Jacket that has those armpit/chest pockets. That just makes sense to me.

Have you gotten the jacket yet and how do you like it?

I use the Scentlok Revenant Fleece and it has cargo pockets on the pants that I use to keep my hands warm if I dont have my Revenant Fleece hand warmer.

Yeah, I got clarity from them about what they meant:

"Your bridge is likely set too high on the tree itself, causing an extreme angle on your bridge from you to the tree and likely causing you to not be able to access your kit link system. Moreover, you could shorten the length of your bridge as well once this is lowered!"

Adjust saddle to fit the pockets just abt sums it up, but I'm gonna try it and see if it is more comfy. maybe it will unlock my inner leaner.

worst comes to worst, I still like the jacket and bibs, and I guess I could use the pockets or a muff, but I'd be a bit bummed that I might not get to use one of the features that sold me.

I lean and sit with a relatively low tether and short bridge. It’s the most comfortable for me in my saddle. Low being about shoulder height when standing on platform. But I also use a muff tied through my bridgeloops to keep my hands warm.

Hand muff for really cold weather or if you want a custom piece, Gray Wolf Woolens can move the pockets up closer to the ribcage. Just ask for it when you order from them.

Do you mean the tether wraps the tree at shoulder height? Or clips to the bridge there?

I tend to set the tether around the tree just above my head, and use what I’d consider a longish bridge. I think it peaks/clips to the tether below shoulder height, sorta middle of the chest. I find that length helps me to be able to reposition around the tree when deer show up in an unexpected place.

Same here. Low tether around shoulder, neck height and a short bridge around 8-9".

FYI for anyone curious abt firstlite in the future. I dig the jacket. Warm. And not as bulky as I anticipated. But I don't think the kitlink/muff feature is going to work w/ the way I set up my saddle hunting (longer bridge). Here is our exchange, just to edify anyone pondering a purchase in the future.

I had called and asked if it would be accessible w/ a saddle. they said "yes. no problems w/ a saddle"

I told them:
"I’ll play with it and see if I can get comfy w it. having been in the saddle for a lot of years, I don’t agree that the setup one way (longer tether and bridge, favoring sitting) is proper and the another way (short bridge, maybe more favoring leaning) is improper. It may just be that someone who is more comfy in a saddle w a longer bridge doesn’t get to use one of the features on your gear, which for me is a little bummer but not a deal breaker.

It may be a thing you want to tell saddlehunters about when they call the company and ask if it is compatible (like I did), so they aren’t bummed later."

They responded: "Rest assured we do have plenty of customers that use the Sanctuary Set without any trouble--I'm only hoping to provide you with a bit of insight as to why you currently aren't able to access you kit link zippers effectively!"

I would have preferred, 'Yeah. we'll update our Q&A script so we ppl have fair warning." but it is what it is. I'll try to tweak it to see if I can get it to work, but I may be back to muffing it.

I remember when there was conversations about sewing saddles into pants and jackets. And they weren’t jokes.

Cool. That is way lower than I’ve tried. I’ll check it out. Brave new world.

If your bridge is adjustable just shorten it up a good bit. I couldn’t tell you how long mine is but I’d assume 12-15” probably. Super comfy for me switching from leaning to sitting but mostly sitting.

I have the fanatic jacket and make it work two ways. First is to pull the built in muff through the bridge ropes and put both hands in on the tree side of the bridge. Second way is put my left hand in the muff on the tree side of the bridge and my release hand inside on the body side of the bridge.

Silly question but wouldn't a trenchcoat work really well for saddle hunting? Leave the center buttons unbuttoned and ur bridge could come out from the inside and the long tails cover ur butt and thighs if seated in the saddle

I have been thinking trench coat too. Or something long like that that would just go over my saddle and offer some warmth or wind protection for my legs

U can find heavyweight wool trenchcoats for under 100bucka all day long. Maybe just really heavy carry weight isn't desirable?

Also, gives off that creepy peeping tom/flasher vibe and so folks in the wood won't bother you........
