Saddles and hip replacement

Long story short. I was super excited to start using a saddle, bought one end of last hunting season. Learned I need a hip replacement this spring, chickened out practicing with my saddle this summer cause of my constant pain.

Having the surgery this December. Now I’m worried maybe I shouldn’t use the saddle after the surgery.

Curious is anyone who has had a hip replacement does use their saddle regularly and is it safe?

Thanks Jason

new user here. Had my hips done in January and June of this year.

just started a couple weeks ago, i just have a single stick and no platform yet, so i climb up the stick, hang for 15-20 minutes and climb back down. No problems yet, looking forward to trying longer sits.

hoping to hear from longer term users too

I didn't have a hip replacement, but I shattered my pelvis and busted one hip after an accident years ago. Hip pinch and pressure in that area was my main concern about switching to a saddle.

Fortunately some people on here really talked up the JX3 and the lack of hip pinch due to the design with the seat and how the bridge loops connect. There is no hip pinch.

I didn't answer your question and you already own a saddle, but I can recommend the JX3 for allday sits and zero hip pinch. If you were to order one and it didn't work for you, they do not last long on the classifieds here.

Hope all goes well with your surgery and a speedy recovery

Come to the light, the JX3 tree saddle light..............
Don't be afraid, you will sit from dark to dark very comfortably, be able to snooze when you want, no dreaded hip pinch, no back aches.
No platform required, only a ROS, no knee pads required, built in pack frame for carrying all your needs.

I look into it, but I have already purchased a Mantis before I found out the lovely news. Thanks for the reply, sounds promising and like I have no worries really

I have a Cruzr XC and haven't even hunted from it yet, but I do like the looks of the JX3, and will probably purchase 1 in the future.

Maybe contact harold wright he has had multiple joint replacement and is successfully saddle hunting.

Regarding hip replacement, I have one friend who had a hip resurfacing. It was state of the art when he had it. According to him, it is better wrt activity level and longevity. You may want to check that out regardless.

I am also having a hip resurfacing, at the old age of 39 they said it is absolutely the only way to go if you want to continue to be active. I have it done the 2nd of December, so time will tell.

Just be religious with the physical therapy. The two guys I know have done very well with it. Both in their 40’s when they had it done.

Had my right hip replaced July 24 this year, was climbing and saddle hunting by October. I'm 51 and at end of therapy felt 35, so much more mobility it isn't even funny. FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THERAPY! Go the extra mile if they say it's ok to push yourself and CONTINUE with exercises even after therapy is over. Motion is lotion, live by it and you'll do great.

Awesome to hear and will follow that moto. Just got it done. Sitting here typing this bored in the recovery room lol. Glad to hear it went well for you to sit!

Keep at the physical therapy! Glad you’re out of surgery and on the road back to a better quality of life!

Wow... I totally expected you were in your 50-60s as I was reading through this!

I hope you're recovering well.

I have not hip surgery but I have a Mantis, medium. Im 6'1", 185lbs, 34 waist. I think a large would've been better for me, but since switching to a utilibridge playing with the bridge length and tether height I can ease those pressure points pretty well. The recliner is awesome too for long sits. And I also use the micro fit adjusters quite a bit switching between leaning and sit-leaning or sitting.

It'll probably get easier with time, I know i get fatigue when I feel like I should be at my prime! Usually I pick my bike up in spring and ride about 15 miles... can't walk the next day :tongueout: We aren't getting younger.

I say don't push it, consult your PT. But when you're feeling ready, use one stick and climb up 2-3' and sit for 5-15 minutes. Do that a few times, sit for a little longer. Im certain you can find comfort, it takes a little playing around to find comfort in each tree I've noticed.
