Sam houston national forest area

If there are any people out there around the Sam national forest in texas and need a scouting/hunting partner, im all free. I hunt with my kid from time to time but would be nice to have other adult conversation. Looking to start scouting and pig hunting sometime after muzzle loader season closes. Maybe start filming my saddle/bow hunting beginnings!
 
About what area in sam Houston are you hunting? I've hunted around the ratcliff tadmore area before but it's been a few years. Been saying I wanted to get back up that way may just do it next year. My grandparents are from ratcliff.

Just totally went blank. I'm thinking davy Crockett not sam Houston

Ive hunted in the crockett when i was a kid. Im not set on sam, just 30 min from the house. Crockett is better from i can tell, less people running aroumd. Im down for either. I hunted around groveton back in the day. My uncle had 30 acres over there somewhere and me and my dad would jump the fence and go in there and hunt.

Like I said I haven't hunted there in years but there are plenty of East Texas studs up there!

I used to live in houston. Moved back up to michigan. Still go to houston on business trips and was trying to get a buddy into hunting and told him evenings I'm down there we can scout over the summer. Dont know if my travel schedule would be flexible or predictable enough to try to coordinate anything with you.

I only "hunted" it once with a coworker when I lived down there and it didn't seem like it saw too much pressure from what I could tell. You guys think its pounded pretty good? And by "hunted" I mean we just strolled the pipelines with guns. No scouting or anything. Go figure no luck.

When you do come this way, give me a shout. We can go look at it and spend some time in the woods if nothing else. People hunt it pretty hard during the first month of rifle season but bow season and late season is pretty empty. Most just post up about 100 yards off the road nowadays.

Is there anyway to make this thing notify me when people write in this forum post? That way it could be like a messenger?
 
Not sure if there is a way for just this thread to notify you. With tapatalk you can set the global settings to notify you on your home screen outside the app, but that would be every thread that you're subscribed to i believe. It gets out of hand quick so I just check in every once in a while.

I've hunted in the SHNF for the past few years, so I've done a fair bit of scouting there, particularly in the Little Lake Creek Wilderness area. I usually go about it alone, so I'm always open to finding a good scouting/hunting partner.
 
would anyone be willing to take my buddy out scouting a bit? If you read my post above I sued to travel back to houston for work pretty frequently. was talking to my buddy today and he was saying hes ready to get into hunting so hes going to do his safety course this weekend. I asked him where he was hunting and hes going between either being guided or going to public (im trying to get him to just go on public). Hes a little nervous about going to public not really know what hes doing so was wondering if any of you guys would be willing to let him tag along, observe, ask some questions and probably provide beer at the end haha. His name is Alex, super nice dude, met him at the gym I worked out at while I was down there. Hes like I was, just getting a late start into hunting. Ill be sending him some DIY sportsman, Hunting Public, etc. youtube videos to watch about scouting so he has an idea what the goals are. Anyways, appreciate it if someone could just let him meet up with you out there. PM with contact info if youre willing. Thanks.
