Trying my hand at saddle making in the phantom form. I am taking a lot of info from threads by @always89y @wayne r @ckossuth as well as many others. All info I can gather, I have been bookmarking.
Sasquatch reference = 6’2” and where 42-44 waist pants.

I am basing my dimensions from @wayne r phantasm build, but up sizing it in a couple places.

I am keeping the overall length of 31” but adding on to the middle width to 14” and the sides to 8”.

I used a 48” metal ruler for my curve by placing 24” mark in the middle and bending it til I had touched the marks on the outside of the fabric evenly.

I was able to attach my mil spec binding with v92 thread from the thread exchange (awesome thread from them), the whole build will be done in v92 thread. I included up close pictures of how I ended the binding at the ends for a nice clean look.

I have attached several photos of progress so far and will update the thread as materials come in and more tasks are completed. Also attached close up shots of my stitches, both top and bottom.

Thanks for following along.

P.S. I am also videoing my progress as well to put up on my YouTube channel, no time frame on when that will be posted but I will make sure to update the thread when it does so if people are interested in watching how I put it all together, they can.

Looks great. Are you using an edge binder attachment for grosgrain?

Yes I am, it’s the one inch binder from sailrite.
I do have another one I purchased from eBay that works well too. But I have that one up for sale on eBay, I don’t need two of the same size.

But it does make a big difference using one. I don’t have one for the 1 1/2” binding I use for pot holders and it takes at least twice as long without the binding attachment.

Really nice stitching, that looks great. Super job. Looking forward to the finished product.
Thank you, I appreciate everyone’s comments.
I have sewed a bunch of grocery totes/ammo box totes with edge binding for practice.

And I always make sure to test my tension on scrap fabrics.

Hard to tell from your pictures, but from my reading and testing the comfort will be better if the stretch of your mesh is to top bottom, not side to side. I can't tell for sure which way you have yours going but it looks to to bottom. Looking forward to following. I have got materials coming to build another for myself with some changes from my last.

Yes, definitely made sure that it is stretching top to bottom after reading that in a couple threads.

Have you posted any of your builds on here?
What changes are you planning on making?

Looks good so far, curious about what machine your using? I destroyed my singer 4452 doing my first saddle attempt. The v92 wouldn't go through it at all.

It’s an Omega Walking foot with zig zag
I call it a semi industrial machine, takes industrial sized needles but is lacking a servo or clutch motor.

I have not posted any. First thing to change.. Switch the direction of stretch, try adding or subtracting area of mesh for the best fit

Well if you do post I am looking forward to it.

Delrin balls show up today, so except for the g hooks for the leg straps I will have all my materials

Your build looks solid dude!! Been following.
Be curious to see how you do the delrin. I did the comfort channel mod on my mantis and it works great.

Doing my own sort of XL Phantom. Not quite as big as yours and Wayne’s Phantasm. We’re all bigger dudes (i’m assuming), but wondered about any hip pinch with the extra length of saddle.

Lol, well. I have hit my first mistake and it is with the delrin balls. I tried sewing them in the two inch webbing first and then slide the 1” tubular webbing over that, lol what I mistake that was. And I ended ruing my two inch webbing, by the way you don’t get a lot of useful webbing for saddle making from treestand harnesses, at least not the ones I tore apart.
I had ordered more two inch webbing.‍♂️
So I have a different foot my machine coming so I can get the spacing between the delrin balls

Oh I did sew in the leg loops onto the saddle, I’m not 100% happy with the “look” of the stitches, functionality wise they are all fine as far as tension and such but I could have done better for a more uniform look.

My size isn’t as big so it will be interesting to see how it turns out, I am a 32” waist and my sizing gives no hip pinch, I have had guys in to 40” all say the same, all I did was evenly fold the two inch webbing then slide the 25mm tubular webbing over set in place the push a ball inside on the inner side of the loop, I used an arrow to push the ball to where I wanted it to sit and did this for all balls before stitching, hope this helps, Wayne

On the “Phantis” mods i did i sewed the end shut on a piece of tubular, then added the delrin (one at a time) sewing in each one as close as the foot i had would allow. When the tubular “comfort channel” piece was done i used speedy stitcher to attatch. A smaller foot would be nice.
