So im curious if using permethrin on scentlok was advised as i hunt in some heavy tick infested areas. I would hate to alter the scentlok benefits and if anyone has any information with using them in conjunction together?

I can't help you, but you might want to reach out to scentlok directly for an answer. @John Eberhart probably would know also.

Permithrin will adsorb well to the activated carbon but Permithrin is semi volatile with a relatively high boiling point (almost 400 F) so it's unlikely to get occluded in valuable meso and micro pores of the activated carbon. In fact, the permithrin is most likely to affiniate well to any non polar fabric and likely won't get much past the perflourocarbon coating used to waterproof your outerwear.

English man, ENGLISH!

I have deduced the following but correct me if i'm wrong: Permethrin's volatility means it isn't likely to get trapped in the pores of your activated carbon. Rather it is more likely to bond to the exterior fabric and is not likely to penetrate beyond a garments waterproof treatment/coating.

Id say it's pretty easy choice between maybe getting winded or getting covered in ticks. Hate those little devils.

I permethrin EVERYTHING. After getting over 300 chiggers at once last year from my armpits down to my toes, I declared war. Also, ticks give me the Hebee Jebees with all the diseases they carry.

Thanks guys although i think my plan is to definitely reach out to scentlok for a definitive answer. I trust you guys so please don't take it personal.

I will report back with my findings for those that are as curious to this answer as i.

Same. I just discovered the joys of Permethrin last summer during a bad blackfly & mosquito season. It's the Frank's Red Hot Sauce of repellents.

So just an update I just got off the phone with Scentlok. The gentleman I spoke with stated he was not entirely sure if the permethrin would hinder a suits results. However he did not disagree with using it on the suit itself. As he explained that if adding any chemical spray if it has an odor the carbon will grab ahold of it as carbon does not discriminate between odor molecules. He did state that if anything that it would require you to reactivate your suit/gear probably more often. He did recommend that it would be best to instead spray your boots and base layers instead and wear the scentlok over that.

Mine will be getting treated regardless. Seems like any biting/stinging insect loves me. I have had hundreds of chigger bites before and will not go in the woods without premethrin treated clothes again.

Anyone care to share experiences since the OP? Do you still use it on scentlok? If not what made you change? Ticks love me but the feeling is not mutual and they are awful where I hunt so I’m interested in anything I can do to prevent those suckers.

Been using it on scentlok for 10 years, no issues. I buy the Gordans Permithrin 10 from tractor supply and dilute it 1oz to 20 oz water. Spray everything down outside and let it air dry for a day or two. Used to walk through soy bean fields and corn fields chigger free.
