Can someone tell me if I tied this correctly? I was on my platform at ground level yesterday and my hitch kept sliding down.

Tie you a Blake’s hitch and be done with it. Nothing performs the old grip and slip like a Blake’s

Watch some YouTube videos and diagrams. You definitely want to make sure you get it right!! Some people may need more wraps than others.

Thanks, all. It's 8mm main line and 6mm hitch line. @valerio024, I followed your YouTube video (I enjoy your videos, I find them very helpful!). The fault is on my end for sure - it was the first time I have tied any friction hitch.

You guys think I just need more wraps? Do ropes need to "break in"?

As @Brocky said, it looks like you are trying a distel hitch and yes you need at least two more wraps on top. With oplux and 6mm trc I had to go to a fifth wrap on top.

Sometimes new ropes “milk” when you are first using them. For those reasons I’m partial to easy proven hitches like a standard 6 wrap prusik or the Blake’s hitch.

The Blake’s as well as the Tautline are the exceptions to the rule of needing a smaller diameter cord than the rope, both of these can be tied using the end of the rope they‘re tied on.

Yes, the Blake’s has one leg and the Mich has two, and the Distel is a two legged Tautline, with modified number of wraps.

Looks like Blakes Hitch is same as the Michoacan except it goes through 2 wraps?
The michoacan hitch goes three over one under and you use both legs to hitch the carabiner through... if memory serves me correctly!
The Blake’s hitch is two over, two under only one leg gets connected, the other leg sets out after coming up through the bottom two wraps.

Thanks for your input, all. I added a loop and it sticks like glue now. Thank you!
