I scout more than anything.
As matter of fact 95% of the time inseason scouting brings me more encounters on better animals than anytime.
That being said This is the main reason I went to saddle this year, it is my 3rd time trying saddle in last 13 years.
The ease of maneuvering through the thick and along transitions with a-saddle setup on my back compared to a stand on back, well there is just no comparison.
I love a good treestand and still use it when im going to a known spot im gonna hunt.
I am still on the fence with the stand saddle thing but i admit i have one foot off the fence on the saddle side.
i even sold my assault this week.
Scouting and finding hot sign is usually productive.
Well i will say most times. i think you need to scout an area fully or at least the terrain features thoroughly.
this week i ran into a scenario where i found some great hot fresh sign.
i really made the mistake of overlooking the fact-of how easily accessible this spot was. I know better than this.
In short i hunted this area after scouting it and finding good sign then I stacked a few hunts. Never seen a deer.
i was really wondering and thought. Man all that sign but i never even seen a-doe, fawn or anything.
The last sit i humbled myself kicked rocks all the way back to the truck and then my mind went into a confusion.
What went down? The wing, thermals, tree selection? Nope nope nope
I thought man something is wrong and i dont think it was my fault at all.
well the next morning i went out and scoutedthe area very thoroughly.
i found out what was wrong.
if curious watch the video.
scout scout hunt. My theory is
Scout for other hunters,
Scout for good fresh deer sign
Then if #1 and #2 goals are met. Hunt hard and hunt them down.
