Sean's outdoors climbing method

Sean has a secret weapon keeping him safe that some people may not know about...JESUS CHRIST!

Just kidding, not about God... I mean it can't hurt to pray before you ascend a tree, but please don't use God as your tether guys. Definitely safer ways to climb. Weight savings shouldnt "outweigh" safety concerns. Same goes for your time. It might take longer to add in moves with a linemans belt but it lowers risk of . I do think the sticks are kinda neat though. Kinda like westepps the way they set up but since you don't actually step on them and the aider is always in the middle on the button it might not pull away from the tree. (Sometimes my stepps will do that if I clip on a swaider and it slides to one side).

Sean is a really good guy though. I've watched a lot of his videos. Definitely peculiar but we all are in some way or another. Im a deadhead surfer hippie that loves killin critters and loves God haha. Unusual combo.

@Cgpro21 I know you posted the video but its not YOUR video is it? You're not sean are you? haha. Its kinda unclear the way your post reads.

The idea is a new one to me. It resembles a WE step of some type with the three contact points.

"What would I do different" with the anchor; install a $2 tube plug (I am sure that was in the works anyway) and run a self tapping bolt through the lower end of the tube to reduce side movement on the bottom "leg". Only enough of the screw (pointy end) exposed to bite slightly.

Plenty of good ideas on on climbing technique.

No im not Sean. I watched the video and i have my opinions on it and was wondering what others thought of the process. Sorry if i worded it wrong. Plenty of videos and pics of climbing methods that are not of the person posting the original video. I've never seen this method but some i would consider similar. Thanks for your reply. Happy hunting for the coming season.

This thread is a good reason as to why I like this site. I feel as I read these comments that guys are looking out for one another. If you walk outside your house and look around, you rarely see that these days. I helped a family broken down at a gas station yesterday and you would have thought I performed a miracle for them, they were shocked. Honestly I did it because I pray someone would help me if I was in need. Thank you guys for looking out for each other!

I apologize for the misunderstanding @Cgpro21. Hope there are no hard feelings.

I didnt think you were but had to make sure. Nono thanks for posting it. Someone on here will turn that into something even better.

Should someone reach out to Sean and point out some of the concerns in this thread? I used to be a subscriber a while back, and even pointed out some concerns in the past. His response, while respectful, was dismissive stating that his equipment was rated for a 1000 pounds with no mention of kN/MBS/shock loading/etc.

I'm afraid he has no concept of climbing rated equipment or best practices. Perhaps someone that might have some rapport with him? While I'm sure SH members will have enough sense to heed those warnings his viewership has a much larger surface area for exposure. I'm worried one of his viewers will see that video, think nothing of the safety concerns, make their own, and end up with a square shaped hole in their body this fall.

I tried a similar climbing system last year. Instead of the mini sticks I used strap on steps. Despite all the safety concerns which are valid I do believe strap on steps are a better option for someone wanting to try this.

Hey it works for this dude more power to him. We all assume risk when climbing trees. I’ve definitely seen way worse methods on here. It is definitely good practice what ever method we chose. Practice makes perfect. In theory lol I’ve definitely not been a fan of long aiders also but some seem to like them. Two step is my go to! DanO’s new double step with sewn in aiders bomb !

Agreed if your gonna copy this route do it with cranford or squirrel step on ocb & use a LB with the tether........

I watch Sean's videos. He's a pretty good guy who seem to balance out Family/God/Work/Hunting pretty well. Watched his video about SRT/DRT climbing, made me realized that except for maybe the rappelling aspect, SRT is not something I want to do or practices throwing rope around a branch for a few dozens try. That being said, I think he's trying too hard to reinvent the wheel with a new 'ultimate' lightweight system. PVC is not the way to go (in aiders or DIY BOW!!). WE steps weight just the same as his DIY sticks, and if you dont like the ropes, you can always use straps. But hey, try everything out once at least, always evolve.

I mean, there is a balance between weight/safety/efficiency that we all might find for ourselves. Heck, I was considering double tether climbing until I tried it, realized I'll carry that extra 6 lbs in sticks.

Hahaha i feel the same way! im like two tethers sounds like the lightest system until i was dying and pouring sweat at the top of the tree!

This! Absolutely and unequivocally this! If you add up all the lengths of his sticks and the number of standoffs. You're about in the same neighborhood of the weight penalty of a single stick climb. Except with the added dangers of a longer aider (unstable) and a very serious injury potential from the way the sticks are oriented and unplugged.

I get the sense that this is an attempt to be "in the game" on the ultralight/mobile hunting community but without any of the knowledge/concern of safety that should come with it.

I’ve watched a few of his videos, he does not take any criticism from the comments well at all. He is always fighting with people in the comments defending himself haha
