Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

Actually....depending on size, hard to tell in pic, it may be a 66.

I checked the image compared to my, yet refurbished or sold, 66.
It looks a little different. Mine is a 1941 model 66 I believe.

Im almost positive....its a 66k. The top of the singer badge is level with the stitch thumb screw. @sojourner your 66 looks different becuase it has the lever for stitch length adjustment.

Thanks. I just checked the serial number. Indicated 66 class machine. Turned it and everything is moving easily. Also checked into the crinkly finish. Not really rare. It is called the Godzilla finish by some.

Anyway, horizontal hooks and class 66 bobbins are not what I am going to go with. I may just keep the cabinet and get rid of the rest. Not sure yet.

Found a good condition Singer 111W155 for $200 with clutch motor and table. Sounds like a great deal to me? What say yall?

If its truly in good shape, and stitching well, Id take a gamble for $200 in a second.

yea, it's 2.5 hrs away though so I'll try to get more information on it. If they tell me the clutch motor is shot even better. Maybe they'll sell me just the machine.

I discovered that I can search facebook marketplace without being a member. There are so many sewing machines one here it is unreal. Not a ton of industrial machines, but a few.

They certainly can. You just have to be able to jump on them quick as they don’t last long. I’ve been lucky and scored a few good to great deals but I’ve missed out on several as well because I wasn’t able to jump I. The truck and leave immediately.

Well, I guess I’m spending my 4th of July driving 2.5 hrs to look at a sewing machine. The guy selling it is selling it for his friend’s family after his friend passed away. He said his friend used to it to sew boat upolstrey for a small business he had. The guy himself doesn’t know much about the machine or the shape it’s in. It doesn’t look bad from the pictures. I figured I’d take some thread and some fabric to hand crank through just to see what general shape it’s in. If it’s siezed or binding or doesn’t feel smooth I’ll probably not get it. Anything close to just needing a good cleaning I’ll probably buy it. It’s a 111w155 so I believe it doesn’t have reverse. Anything else y’all can think of to look out for?

Well she’s mine now!

This is listed in my area for $50. I’m not looking to use it to all day everyday, but would like to be able to modify and possibly one day make my own saddles. However I know nothing about sewing or sewing machines. Any thoughts on whatever model this is?

Looks like a 4452 I have that model it works fairly well sometimes I need to help it through the thick stuff. Mine will sew through 6 layers of 500d and two layers of webbing at the same time. I have an old singer also.

I blew mine up making a phantom clone but others on here, g2outdoors and always89y have used theirs to make some great stuff. I guess if you can baby it it may do fine. Older singers would be better though.

The table top that came with the machine I just got was warped, cracked and in rough shape. Ive been trying to find a used one with not much luck. I only need the table top but I suppose I would by the base as well if someone was getting rid of it as a set. Could y’all keep an eye out for me while you search for machines? I’m searching 250 mile radius listings on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace regularly with no luck. I could try to make one myself but I already priced wood and tools and id be up to the price of just buying a brand new top. If y’all have any other tips or ideas please let me know!

Im located in North Alabama (Cullman) and will travel about 2.5 hours if needed.

Thanks!
