Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

Norristown, PA

Free Singer 15-90 clone with a case. If I already did not have two 15-91’s and a pristine 15-90 clone, I’d be all over this one.

The table top that came with the machine I just got was warped, cracked and in rough shape. Ive been trying to find a used one with not much luck. I only need the table top but I suppose I would by the base as well if someone was getting rid of it as a set. Could y’all keep an eye out for me while you search for machines? I’m searching 250 mile radius listings on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace regularly with no luck. I could try to make one myself but I already priced wood and tools and id be up to the price of just buying a brand new top. If y’all have any other tips or ideas please let me know!

Im located in North Alabama (Cullman) and will travel about 2.5 hours if needed.

Thanks!

Do you have any friends with a router or jigsaw? Salvage an old solid wood table top or door, cut a hole and drop the machine in, or get fancy and route a flush mount inlet like the original.

I do have a jigsaw so I was thinking about the table idea like you mention. I found a guy selling tables this weekend and he wanted $225 for just the table top. INSANE!

Redneck it up. Some pine boards glued together or a plywood top with some 2x4 legs.

Haha that’ll be a last resort. I do have the legs and foot, the table top is all that I need.

Wish you lived closer to me. I have all the woodworking equipment you would need to make a table top.

That’s a kind offer, thank you. That’s the issue, since We are renting with no garage to place folks and being fairly young every project I want to DIY requires me to first buy some tool haha.

Yeah, you maybe to young to remember projection TVs. I bought my woodworking equipment to make a custom entertainment stand for one many years ago after I was out on my own. It has paid for itself over the years.

@gcr0003 my local Ace rents routers, circular saws, etc. Save some money for now and maybe rent what you need to make your table.

Here's a top J Cline used for one of his machines. Mentioned he picked it up at a reasonable price.

That looks excellent but I’m not willing to spend $100 on this table top. I saw in his thread he said the butcher block tables were not expensive but that’s expensive to me for this project. I may just remove the oil pan from my other table and use it. I was hoping I could use both machines in one table but it’s just not going to work.

Search your local craigslist for countertops - people list them when they remodel their kitchens. I bet you can find one in great shape for $20 that would work. Also give you a smooth, wiapable surface.

I was able to get the slab of wood I posted to that thread for $70 (technically $35, since what you see is only half of the slab). Look for local dudes with a chainsaw and milling setup. @Western VA Hunter has the other half of it.

Great price on a Singer 15-91 near Oneonta NY. Hard to beat for $25.

I picked up these two halves of a dining room table in the trash a block from my house a few weeks ago. One inch mahogany. Peel the veneer, glue em together, cut some holes and instant table top.

Sewing table. Listed 5 weeks ago. Asking $40. Offer $20.
