That’s 4 shikars w Amsteel daisy chains on the back pack. Pretty sweet sticks

Have you ever tried to cut Amsteel? It’s quite difficult to do. I find a good pair of tin snips works best. I seriously doubt you’ll wear down an Amsteel Aider on a hole in a climbing stick.
I once tried cutting Amsteel with an axe on a stump of hardwood. Amsteel sink right into the stump with the axe but not a thread was broken.

I bought the LWCG Cable Aiders. They are legit. They pair really well with the SHIKARS. Adds a 17 inch step to each stick. When stacking them together it will add an inch to the total length because of the metal connectors. With a 24 inch step between sticks this setup will get you to roughly 21 ft to platform. Total weight for one stick with a Tethrd Versa mini and a LWCG Cable Aider is 1.91 lbs.

After watching this thread with interest, I opted for some of these also. I have the LWCG minis paired with these cable aiders, and I agree with @skyjacker that these are the best aider option I have personally tried to date.

I just ordered these frm LWCG for my Shikar, mainly because the are permanently attached. Don't have to worry about losing my webbing aider in the dark.

I just didn't like webbing for an aider. It blows around in the wind. You can use some kind of hose to stiffen the loop in webbing but it creates a triangle shape and I'm always having to turn my boot sideways to get in the loop. The cable aiders do not blow in the wind and create an open loop. It's just much easier to get a boot in. To me that makes the whole process a bit safer. I still get sketched out on aiders because it just doesn't feel as stable as a step on a stick. But these are the best I've found so far.

I am going to try the LWCG aiders out. I hate aiders though.

Also, second guessing my decision to go to 22”....

These cable aiders are enticing. I started out with permanently attached webbing aiders. Moved away from them due to concern that they flap in the wind.

Went to single, carry as you go aider. The downside, to me, is that if I set the CAYG aider length to be 18”, I have to step higher than 18” to set the aider on the stick. About 22” to 23” to initially attach the aider.

I really want to ditch aiders completely, but have not arrived at a satisfying solution.

That said, I think I may try the cable aider and see how it works for me. If it works, I’ll purchase enough for my sticks.

But, as an arthritic and overweight man in his 50’s, I am limiting myself to max 18” step and working from there. Yes, early season I could use a longer step, but not in late season with cold weather gear on.

Just trying to find the best solution while keeping in mind my limitations and aversion to risk.

I added 2 cable aiders for the bottom 2 sticks. Climbed today and was impressed on the way up and down. I am openly not a fan of aiders but these at first impression seem to be the best to work with.

I deal with cables all the time (garage door tech here) I can easily make those cable aiders. I may have to play around some.

I have two questions for those who have the LWCG cables. What is the length in inches of the cable end to end and what is the bolt that holds them on? Is it a grade 8 1/4'' x 20 or something? I can always figure that out too. But the length of the cable would be helpful.

Also does the cable hurt your foot at all when using it as step compared to tubular webbing ?

The aiders from LWCG do not come with any hardware. I used grade 8, 1/4 bolts I think and inch long. I could be wrong. I don’t think there is much difference in pressure on your foot. You are not on it too long. I climbed in running sneakers yesterday and didn’t notice any discomfort.

I believe the bolts on the LWCG sticks are 5/16”. I’ve been having trouble finding swag eyes to crimp on 1/8” wire.

There’s a hole on the bottom of shikars that fits a 1/4 bolt but you will need to provide it.

I can’t wait to try this mod on my mini beast sticks.
I am going to try a double step cable aider for the first stick. That way if i lean a stick against the tree. The top of the first stick will be 7.5 feet.
21’ for four sticks
25.5 for five
31’ plus for six with platform.

I think if I use one of these i can add the first of the two steps.

For the SHIKARS and LWCG Cable Aiders, the bolt I used was a 1 1/4 - 1/4 20 grade 8 hex bolt. Fits perfect, one or two threads coming out of the stopper nut. You can't tighten it down too tight or the cable aiders will not be able to rotate. I also can confirm the eye on the LWCG cable aiders is 5/16.
