I currently have a set of EWO sticks with their Standoffs and Doublesteps. Very high quality sticks. My only complaints are that I didn’t order. 4th, didn’t go with the anodized version, and that I ordered them at 24”. You live and learn, but man are these still sweet.

But I’m thinking of getting a set of Shikar FXD’s as a lighter option, and as a means to right my own wrongs with what I have learned about climbing and sticks. Considering a building a 1-stick with a Shikar stick as well.

I’d love to hear some of your experience with the Shikar’s, particularly those in the 17” range. I have read that some of the longer ones do flex a little (elastically) but what about the 17’s?

For those with time on the EWO sticks, do the Shikar standoffs stick to the tree as well as the EWO?
 
I can’t speak to personal use of EWO, but I have 4 FXD and absolutely LOVE them. Extremely lightweight. I stripped them and ran stock buckle-less straps last year. Possibly might swap this year I haven’t decided. They stick hard as well
 
I had the 17in FXDs. Sold them because I use my EWO one stick solely.
FXDs didn’t flex for me at 210lbs, and they bite to the tree even harder than the EWO one stick does for me.
Not sure you’ll notice too big of a difference between the two to sell/ship your EWOs and take a loss though. I liked stacking all 4 of my FXDs horizontally at the base of my pack. The packability of the FXDs was why I went with them over the EWOs when I initially bought them. Both DanO and Matt are amazing guys and you can’t go wrong with either set of sticks.
 
I had a FXD w Scout. Solid choice.
Also went with EWO; largely due to the UP platform and 1” tubing being more modular. ( can swap platform for one or two steps or put platform on a non EWO 1” stick if I ever wanted to, trade parts , etc)
I 1 stick, or 2 EWO stick with aiders.
 
I’ve decided to stay with my EWO sticks. Just can’t afford to take a hit to swap sticks, when I also want to get an One-Stick.
Seems like the FXD’s are a super solid stick though.
Also seems like EWO is the way to go for the 1-stick. Just trying to decide between 15” or 18”
