Shooting Barebow

Brings back fond memories hunting barebow here with my PSe Lazer Magnum. Used 3 anchor points for 25, 45, & 60 yards. Worked up & down the chest cavity in between anchors. Bow speed 225 FPS. Still have barebow setup I pull off the rack every now & then - Bowtech Commander 47BA86C3-0831-404F-BD93-079A76DEA370.jpeg

Bump
Shooting my Mathews switchback XT fingers with no sights. It’s only been a couple weeks of shooting every other day and I’m shooting baseball size groups out to 20 and softball size 25-30. Got an Oneida Eagle Phoenix on order but they are shut down with the virus going on.

Im just not consistent enough with the recurve. Plus it kills my elbow and shoulder. For some reason the issues aren’t there so much with the compound. Probably the letoff. So much more fun this way than sights and release for me. I was getting to the point that I had to make myself go practice. Now I don’t want to stop. I’m not going back to sights and releases.

If you’re interested in shooting this way check out this guys videos.

I’ve shot compounds with releases and recurves with fingers, but words can’t describe the power you feel when letting go of a modern compound with fingers. It’s about like shooting a shotgun/rifle for the first time as a kid. You don’t get a feel for the power or speed just shooting with the release. Also I shot this right after shooting my recurve so the speed and power was that much more noticeable. I was like dang this thing zips. Was fun shooting it.

I'm a recurve shooter and haven't shot compounds barebow, but I had a cousin (now deceased) that shot compounds barebow and he was phenomenal. Indoor 600 round, he often broke 560s. He hammered walk thru coarses, too. On game, he was deadly. He double lunged an exotic ram once at 65 yards. He was a face walker for his aiming method.
Tom you’re getting old, you already told that story in this same thread a month ago haha!

I shot an old Bear Magnum Hunter for years with fingers. (I did use a sight though) I took my very first deer with it, that story here: https://saddlehunter.com/community/...wkward-yet-successful-hunts.25112/post-354650
I also got my first robin hood with that setup. I am switching to a traditional bow from a compound because the compound is killing my shoulder where my longbow doesn't seem to bother me at all. I think it's the let-off of the compound that's bothering my shoulder. Funny how that works.

Nice. BTW, I hope you aren't leaving those bows leaning like that for an extended period of time. Leaning a trad bow can cause the bottom limb to develop a twist. Not good.

That's good to know...thanks. I would like to say that they just gathered around to get their picture taken but, they're actually waiting there for me to build them a rack to hang from.
