Guys I'm starting this thread to bring something to everyone's attention. First off, I'm not bashing any company and plan on my next saddle to come from them. Secondly, I'm not a knot/rope guy that dreams about the stuff and always coming up with new ideas to try. I pretty much order it and use it, it does the job I wanted it to do and I'm happy. No pro here.
So.... I ordered an opolux tether from Latitude Outdoors for this season and have posted a few pics with it plainly visible, and several of you have mentioned the short tag ends at the carabiner. I thought they looked short when I pulled it out of the box but assumed the rubber coated ends were extra security to keep them from sliding through. No problem, no doubt the company knows what it's doing, and the way the knots made i can't see how it could unravel. What I didn't think about was shock load, at 265 I would be ALOT of shock load on those knots. I have emailed LO with an added pic and will update when I receive a reply. For those of you that are running LO's tethers, are yours short as in my pic or do you have several inches sticking out? 20201123_141621.jpg

I would not run such short tags (as a bonus, I'd also want the carabiner closer to the hitch

I suggest making the tails longer. I usually tie with a 2” tail.

I noticed short tails on all the method saddle oplux and retied all of them. I don’t understand why they let them leave with such short tails.

As others have said, that’s a bit short. I would loosen the knot, take up some of the running extra you have, then give yourself a longer tag end. Two problems solved. You’ve shortened the overall length of the hitch, and give you some extra breathing room on that knot.

The heat shrink is not to prevent the rope from sliding through. It is only to prevent fraying at the end of the rope.

5 times the diameter (6mm x 5 = 30mm or approx 1-1/8in long, in this case) is what I have read. I aim for at least 1-1/2in with that cord or the 5.5mm beal cordellete. I highly suggest you do your own research... I'm just some bum online and not a professional at anything. Actually, that's not true I'm a PGA Golf Professional, but I'm hoping you get my point.
If that tag end slips through the knot you may be in for a ride. Its the sudden stop that gets you.

Mine came the same way, I lengthened it because it freaked me out looking at it 25 feet up.

Those knots have to settle under weight and change over time after several sets. I sit in it at ground level, pull the tag ends, do this some more while hunting, rinse and repeat until they stop changing. Usually with a scaffold knot, it seems this makes the legs longer and leaves the tag ends about the same. When it comes to safety, I encourage you never to assume people know what they are doing simply because they own a company. A little bit of rope is so cheap, I don't understand why they are tying them like that. Maybe it looks cleaner?
