Show Us Those Hunting Bikes

Evidently my budget is lower than most of the other guys on here. Anyway I need to work within my budget and work with what I've got....

Please tell me you're serious, this ratbike is a thing of glory!

I'm going to jazz up my bike little this summer and try to utilize more next season....couple questions for u fellers with more miles than me....if u could choose would u prefer the bow/gun carried on the handlebars or back rack? And for u guys with the saddlebags, what all are u carrying in there that u wouldn't be carrying if u were on foot? Im thinking a small air pump, flat fixing stuff, some plastic grocery bags to cover the seat from rain or blood/guys, and 3 or 4 extra straps for securing a critter to the bike. Im thinking gut the critter, set the bike seat inside the cavity, and strap the front legs to the handle bars and walking beside the bike keeping it upright and the bike touting the load....which makes me think the gun/bow mounts should be on the back

I've been using ebikes to hunt for 6-7 years. used every mount /scabbard out. I now carry bow on my back. I carry my water , kill kit, saw big enough for small logs, and lock chain. I have milspec water bag holders on each side of ft/bk racks. and that goes in 1 pouch. kill kit/ water another. other 2 are for clothes/ misc.. keep any weight as low center as possible for better stability. if I make a kill I quarter it, bag it then ride back to truck and swap bow for frame pack/ sometimes trailer and then go get what I couldn't carry first load. as far as flats I started using green slime and don't have them anymore. without it it's a tire a week on thorns/ bobwire.

Talking about pedal bikes here....I am still not 100% sure the fat tires totally out preform regular or even skinny tire bikes. We have lots of sugar sand and mud. I have some type of hybrid bike that sits like a beach cruiser but has gears with skinny tires that have ok knobbies and my son has a fat tire 24" I think...so it's not full size but not a kids bike. I can ride it just fine and I've borrowed his bike and scouted with it. Once the sand is deep enough to start loosing balance and/or traction u are off pushing either size tire and the way majority of our roads/trails are it's either easy riding or super difficult with very little in-between...on the mud the big knobbies on his bike are great but I kinda float more and easier to start getting off course vs the skinnier tire digs in deeper and usually finds the harder packed stuff underneath and I can stay on track easier. If I was buying brand new I think I'd go fat tire but if u are like me and look used or find something on the side of the road for free to fix up I wouldn't be hesitant if it was a regular tire bike....I lucked out and my dumpster bike has an extremely low gearing. I don't know if it's after market or factory but there is an extra gear ring that looks different from the rest and is powder coated vs the others not. That super low gear is much more important than the tire diameter IMO as from what I've experiences riding the 2 different styles...again..pedal power here..the ebikes it's a no brainer

Wife and I did a ride in an area down there over near Destin and it was either easy cruising or impossible to keep the bike upright in the sugar sand. I wouldnt bother at all with a bike down there. Not worth the hassle imo. Hear it is either easy cruising or the gumbo is is going to lock the wheels up so once it gets wet, I never bother with the bike. Mine is pedal only.

I agree somewhat...some of the roads are nice hard pack limestone after the gate to park and u can get away in there but yeah...the lesser maintained wma the bike is more hindrance. I've always been 1 to gravitate toward swamps and the bikes no good in there but I'm learning the pine flats can produce and the bike can be useful tool

I much prefer carrying my weapon of choice strapped to my pack than on the bike. Like @colin.704 said

As far as fat vs non, I think the fat reigns supreme IF you have a decent motor on there. Without it a motor running on welda power alone, I think a 3 inch hardtail MTB is easier to handle and doesn't limit the places you can go

I don't carry a pack. I have a sling I could use but I think I'd rather lash to the bike. I have some of those atv mount weapon holding arms in the cart but haven't ordered yet....not too expensive. I'd rather mount to the handle bars but if that method works to tout critters than I have a rear rack on there I can build some things to hold the arms...it's too narrow so I gotta make some arm and if I'm doing that I may as well build something more useful/hunter friendly. I'm gonna make a way to attach the game cart but and would be nice to use the bike instead....I don't see why it wouldn't...cover the seat and set the spine on the seat and pull it forward to were the pelvis was tight up against the back of the seat and strap it in place...however long the deer is would show u where to lash the front down....I think I saw a video of somebody doing that

Edit.... Majority of the public land I hunt u have to check the deer and u can't quarter in the field or I wouldn't be worried about silly deercycles

Yea I have seen them carried out that way on youtube etc, seems like it would work if you are down in flat country where you are as long as the ground is dry enough, not sure I have confidence in it here in the hills

Just now building my bike looking at a back rack and maybe handle holder and/or front rack? Wondering what is the popular choices. Screenshot_20230305_185127_Gallery.jpg

I wonder how tough it would be to fab up a fold-up cart like the ATV Backpacker?

It would have to be light enough - hanging out behind the rear tire and all that - to not take impact your steering. I've got a folding Muddy game cart that I could probably lash to a rear rack, or even my handlebars. I'd just need a tongue to connect it to the rear rack. If it folds up it wouldn't be in the way on the (unladen) ride in.

Otherwise, maybe one of those roll-up "deer sleigher" sleds, combined with ski-pulk-type rods instead of a drag rope, would work to pull a deer behind a (slow!) e-bike.

everything is flat there, what you need a low gear for lol
