Shroom Season

Well, I'll snag them on the next trip out. So... Are blacks and grey's the same? It seems like we find smaller grey early, just started finding yellows. And the yellows are always bigger.

Found a few yesterday and a spike shed.
Haha, the shed was laying near a potential stand tree...in fact I've hunted out of that tree years ago. I was walking circles around it trying to decide if its saddle worthy. I almost stepped on the antler. Probably the 4th time this spring that I walked right over that shed.

I haven't found a shed, yet. But I have a hard time looking at the ground when I start finding potential trees to hunt out of!!!

I'm interested in other methods also. I keep going to the common, egg, then Panko covered and fry in a cast iron pan. We will occasionally just fry in butter and eat with morning eggs.

What are some recipes you guys have for them? Thanks
A couple years ago I saved all of the stumps after frying the tops and braised them similar to how you would make bone broth. I then canned the resulting stock and used it in various soups and things throughout the year. The very best thing I used it in was a squirrel stew.

I think I waited too long after our rain last Wednesday. Went out yesterday and only found 5 that were pretty dry. The heat and wind of Saturday killed em I think. Got some decent rain this afternoon though so I’ll go out tomorrow or Wednesday and see if they came back.

These ones in the bag were from last Wednesday and the two bigger ones were tonight my wife found. We found multiple ones dried out tonight on the hillsides so it's probably about the last push for around here :(

Get a gallon ziplock bag and crush a decent amount of saltine crackers in there (enough to coat the morels). Make an egg/milk wash: 1 egg, add milk in a small bowl whip together.
Heat enough butter in a skillet to coat the bottom of the skillet. Cut bigger morels into halves or quarters, dip in egg wash, toss morels in crushed saltine bag, shake to coat the morels. Fry both sides of the morels until golden brown.
