It’s a 6 month old video so maybe it’s been shared but I wanted to share since I just watched. Since there’s a lot of controversy about side loading carabiners I thought it’s good information go make your decision. I did search in some posts and couldn’t find it here. Anyway here you go

 
I have a 27/7 kN biner on the end of my rappel line which is essentially an emergency bailout kit.

On a normal diameter tree trunk, the sideloading is minimal.

If you ever had to clip into something that narrow, an alpine butterfly would solve the sideloading.

skipping to 11:00 seems to be the most common version for saddlehunters that I've seen in my admittedly little experience. rope was breaking first.
 
I had watched this video before, but noticed something different this time. In all of his tests, the force is applied perpendicular to the axis of the object the rope is around. Since gravity pulls down, this would simulate hanging from a horizontal limb. The more common use for saddle hunting would be to have the force applied parallel to the axis of the object. That would further reduce the levering effect around the object, which I would guess lends more credibility to the rope being the weak point.
 
If you’re worried about breaking a biner when using it to girth hitch your rappel rope you may want to log out of the little debbie thread and head over to the getting swole and in shape thread.

Nobody here is breaking a carabiner by side loading it around an 18” white oak while rappelling. The force isn’t there and neither are the vectors.
