If you watch his video he is simply drilling out the diameter of the insert and putting it in the hole. The flange remains protruding. He gets over the flange with a few washers. They make nylon washers that are the same thickness as the rivet nut flange if you wanted to only use one washer.

Got mine cut down today. Just waiting on the cable aiders to come in to finish them off. These little things are great. I can see why everyone who has used smaller sticks won’t go back to full size. It was a fun and easy project. Couple hours all in. I also don’t have a drill press so everything was drilled free hand. Turned out just fine. I’m really liking them and once the aiders come in I think they will be perfect for my needs.
