I just got a 1955 singer 201 for free. It works, came with 1 bobbin, and I already had size 14-18 needles that fit it. My question is what is the largest size thread and needle can this thing take? I plan to use it to make a saddle.

I tried my best to get my 201 to sew v92 but I just never got the tension set right. I was able to sew with v69 just fine and terra 40 perfectly.

When it comes to old domestic singers it was the smoothest machine I ever had.

Good luck.

I have got my 201 to run v92 thread and I think I had to get the right needle to get it right. I have also got my 15-91 to do v138 thread. It works with that size but it does better with v92. Needle size and tension are a pain to set on both of them to get them to work but once you figure it out it does well.
