I accessed my spot down a creek between 2 ridges. Climbed up my tree right at the bottom of the hills were 2 creeks intersect. Right at grey light a young buck comes in behind me on a trail that parallels the same creek I came in on. He rounds a cane break about 30 yards away facing me head on, looks dead up at me, stops, snorts, stomps, and turns around and takes off like I shot at him. He was perpendicular to my wind so he didn’t smell me, I was confused. After getting down I walked back to where he was standing and looking up at the stars, realized I was perfectly framed between the ridges/ hills. Had he been 10 feet off either way he would not have seen me. 5 feet lower in the tree he would not have seen me. 10 minutes earlier and he’d have been blinded by the sun. So close.

That’s why I love big ol trunks. Hard to get skylined with only your head popping out.

I understand there’s times that is all that’s going to work but it seems like I get pinned every time.

Yes bigger trunk would have helped. And had I been standing against the tree like I should have instead of sitting at that time of day I might have been a little harder to see.

It seems like here in N. LA our deer walk around with cricks in their necks! All they do is walk around looking up!

Same in SC.

That’s Big Nose Kate. You won’t drive by this property without her busting you.
