Sling Style Saddle Build

Wonder if one could crochet amsteel? Bet there's no crocheted platforms out there!

It has been one hour since this has been posted and the Saddlehunter effect is taking place. Amsteel is now sold out everywhere. Platform sales have ceased and used platforms sell for 10 cents on the dollar.

Kind of like the Ol' Man tree stand seats. If you could get it tight enough, it would be the ultimate ultralight platform!!!

Got 4 hours of quality time in the new sling today. Put it away to take Sally on a afternoon hunt.

Very comfy and I love the way it carrries when wearing it in!

Can’t wait to watch them all. Love what you are doing. I want one bad! But my sewing machine is crap and I don’t want to buy a new one or have the patients to sew.

Nice! Very inspiring! @always89y would you confirm the Austrialpin slider used on your bridge? I was looking at their website but the ones there seem different than the one in your video.

Thanks!

Thanks! Did you manage to score a 1” buckle? Looks like there’s only 1.25” available. In any case they have some other ones rated for like 15kN. Now to decide how comfortable I feel hanging off of a 15kN buckle....

I did. They update every 2 weeks or so and add whats available. Its hit or miss. Im actually using a 1.25 on this sling build and it works fine.

My wife is the seamstress in the family and I'm trying to convince her to make me one similar to yours for Christmas. But she is against the idea of a belt bridge because she is concerned for my safety, how are you securing the bridge so that the tag end is not slowly sliding out of the buckles? She is more convinced that the amsteel rope or some other ropes are more secured. Also asked are the D-rings necessary? Cant you just loop the saddle section into a spiced eyed end of a rope bridge and prusstik knot on the other? Her dad used to cut trees so she seen his climbing belts with giant steel D-ings, she rather put THOSE on instead of small aluminum ones.

I prefer webbing to amsteel. Easier to work with too, IMO. When I used buckles like these they never slipped even a bit, that said I still backed them up. You can put a stopper knot on them or rethread.

The drings are rated for 4000lbs. Not sure what to tell your wife. They are basically made for this application

Well, now that you have invited your wifes opinion, you pretty much have to do what she wants. The "I told ya so's" after a fall from what SHE didnt think would be a safe option will torment you for the rest of your life.:tearsofjoy:

As for webbing through a buckle, I typically tie a knot in the end. Not for slippage (these buckle cant slip) but in case the weak point of the buckle, the slider, fails. The knot will not pass through the frame.

Yep, you can not use the dring, or use the steel rings...up to you. Thats what makes it DIY. I believe that is how the latitude is set up. Im not sure about a rope to webbing connection for a bridge. Seems like there is potential for cut through?

That's something I didnt consider about the cut through. Continuous rubbing of the webbing and rope over time might start to frail materials. I think the D-rings do make it look alot more professional.

It look like I'm alot smaller than you. Barely 5'7. Do you recommend I make the saddle smaller then the measurements you used? Have anyone else tried your saddle and noticed any issues due to different body size?

A few fellas have tried it, various sizes, with no complaints. I think width of hips and level of calypigian are more critical than height. For me, having the rings 2-4 inches in front of my hips is best.

Go ahead...google calypigian...
