SloMo`s DIY Saddle Hunting Platform

Hard to find an affordable option right now. The sellers on Ebay jacked the price up after we started buying them all. Used to cost$30 now they are offering for $70 . It was the Shoprider Steamer scooter footrest. Best of luck.

My Bad. I built only four platforms so far and to be honest I`m getting confused. I have another foot rest which I have yet to build and that one is the one I was referring to when I said" It has a thin rubber mat kinda thing". Of the others, my first was the OG scooter platform and that was 20 or 25. the second scooter platform the Alien was 30.00 plus shipping and both of the LW &/or XOP were 65.00 or 70.00. The last raw platform was 39.00 free shipping.
Of slomos platform
Which one did you want a pic of.?

Ok thanks

If you get creative with your search terms on Ebay, you can usually find some platforms for closer to $40 (you may have to make the seller an offer). But i went and checked out my local wheelchair/scooter repair shop, and he sells any used platform for $25 :)

Here are the results of my build, bolted perfectly to my climbing stick with no modifications at all. I haven't decided on final platform placement height yet on the stick, but so far this has worked great! I appreciate all the shared ideas on this forum, great group of guys here.

I'd be interested to see someone fabricate a teeth piece that could be bolted to the rear of the seat. I've thought about doing it myself for a while just to see if it works.

Some one did just that on the back of a XOP hand climber but I cannot remember who. Made a XOP klemz!

I love the idea. Keep up the great DIY.

BTW wanted to thank you for your build videos. Saw in one you fabricated some tree brackets so I gave it a go. Am able to cam it over and they bite really well. Very happy with it so far. Also added a DIY button and versa strap to hold it in place while I am setting the cam buckle strap. IMG_0004.jpg

Platform will need to be sourced locally or Ebay CL. They are hard to find sometimes. I personally feel the Shop rider or OG platform from my slo mo platforms is the strongest and my personal favorite. This is the og seat I used 712f9199-69e6-4953-a755-4a0c7c5881b1_1.4f2ccab1e0fc1875803451e7f58567aa.jpegIMG_8502.JPGIMG_8532.JPGIMG_8532.JPG

I made 3 last weekend.

As you can see, the steps used are NOT the same. I bought the same, but didn’t get the same. I talked to the guy and he was cool, but I had already used them so I didn’t take him up on his offer to replace.

I like the bigger size, but I don’t like the added weight or the fact that it has some flex to it when my big ol 6-3, 260 self puts all my weight on the outer edge. Also, the holes on the bigger one are smaller.

I get the whole metal-to-metal majors deal, but I really don’t want a strap going thru those holes. It doesn’t make noise once cammed and I can wrap my carabiners to eliminate the rest of the noise opportunities.

I actually think it’s more comfortable with my feet on the carabiners than it is without.

ETA: I have since added versa buttons to the platforms. I didn’t have the longer grade 8 bolts when these pics were taken.

I’m going to put one of my munchkin friends (yes, I actually have 2 short people I associate with) on the big platform tomorrow to check the flex with him.

I ordered one that looks similar to your large one. Didn’t know or ask but the one I got is steel. Mounted it has some flex, but like mentioned not till I get to the very edge @ 220. Have both as well and like the bigger one.

Good to hear. I honestly wouldn’t have a problem with using the bigger platform even with the flex.

I have a few myself .I think the LW flexes the most, then my XOP, then my scooter platforms which have the least flex. I have sat in setups with them all. Each has a particular strength as I see it . XOP, LW, Predator, are larger platforms and as such I like to use them at about 20 foot and in or around the crotch area of the tree to help with the profile. My scooter platform and its variations work better for me in smaller more sparse cover and for me are my go to platforms for setting up on fresh sign. Lastly my ring of steps. The most versatile for run and gun. Smaller pack size makes these my backup . I`m a bigger guy 200# and 5`10". All of these platforms are relatively easy and inexpensive to make. Keep in mind. Retail on platforms is crazy right now . We have choices from almost nothing in cost for the simplest builds to upwards of 400. Most people not building their own DIY platforms might have to spend 800 or 1000 dollars before they find the platforms that work best for them. Come to one of the Saddle events being hosted here. Peter T has done a wonderful job getting things together up north for us. I plan on having a bunch of DIY stuff with me. Come join us and findout which setup is for you.

The larger platform flexed for the munchkin (me), but I think dalton916 deduced something to do with the downward angle the platform when it rests against the bar.
