Someone gonna pull my trad card

I'm in the velcro camp. Liked seal skin a lot. Have used the bear weather rest too and it works fine. The one @GCTerpfan would work well too. I would either use it or velcro.
With the Velcro do y’all use the fuzz side or the prickly side?

I was actually thinking of pulling out the old Oneida Black Eagle and shooting it barebow style with fingers. Guess that’s one strike on my trad card.
Oneida black Eagle transcends trad life barriers. the real question is what rest will you use?

I held a Oneida for the first time recently....I'm so confused with what the hell it actually is...it has more pins and moving parts then a regular compound bow...with RIVETS!

Heavy too.

It was not until I saw Clay Hayes video about the Penobscot bow that I realized what they are trying to do.

During my teen years it’s what I hunted with. Lever action bows can be interpreted as being loud but I watched 80% of the deer I killed with my Oneida Strike Eagle run 20-40 yards and fall over after standing there.

They seem more intimidating than they are. Once you’ve taken one apart a time or two they’re quite simple. No cam lean to ever worry about. I see them as the recurve of the compound world.

And it’s not what they “are” trying to do, it’s what they have already accomplished. Lever action bows have been around for a long while. Oneida was one of the oldest to do it.

I was only half kidding about breaking this thing out. It’s been packed up in a hard case for 5 years. Maybe one day for fun.

I goofed up and got the small strips but it still works. I’m really impressed with how quiet it is and how smooth the release feels. The only thing I’m skeptical about is how long it’ll last. I shoot a fair amount so we will just have to see. I added extra pieces to the top side just for looks. I wish I would have made the radius the little bit bigger on the “for looks” top pieces but they’re insignificant to the function. 585FF8F9-FE8E-4A58-96F4-3A3B1B1A407A.jpegCC194D82-BD63-45FF-AB13-912FF3BFFC86.jpeg99D75E18-6C39-48EB-8DC9-3E907F9DE1D7.jpegCEA2EC27-BCF2-4334-ABE0-85C98BD2D775.jpeg1A048A7D-F1F9-4F68-9E20-CDE91DDA8641.jpeg5E4C307F-DE27-43DF-90D0-893DE73331C7.jpeg

So something I learned recently at a recent trad event is that you don't want to pad the whole area in one piece of velcro. I did the velcro thing too and just used one piece folded into an angle and rest it on the bow. You want to leave an gap at the corner of square point. This would allow for the fletching to have space to clear and is actually create a more consistent flight. It will also help the durability of your fletching. If you think about it, it make sense. An arrow is round, so its never going to make contact with the corner and with the padding/rest/strike plate, its going to move the arrow away from the bow even more. This is why most bow have different rest and strike plate. I find that its very true, my arrow fly a lot straighter especially when I shoot 3 fletching with cock feather facing out.

Shatterproof Archery give a really good explanation on how to setup a rest.
