sort of new to hunting in general and could us some advice.

Y'all have given me a lot to think about. But it's good to know that I'm on the right track. I'm glad I stumbled on this site. Y'all have been so helpful

I’d read as many books on whitetail biology and habits as you can - non hunting focused.

I’d call the biologist responsible for deer management in the area you’re hunting and tell him you’re new, and are interested in learning about the deer’s feeding amd bedding habits in that area, and what time of year they rut.

I’d then pay whatever amount onX costs, and install the app on your phone.

I’d buy a compass.

Id go to the property without a weapon, in comfortable boots, and I’d walk every inch of it. If you encounter deer trails, turn the tracker on, and drop pins on droppings, rubs, scrapes, beds, deer you jump, other people’s hunting setups, etc. if you walk more than 2-3 miles on a property and don’t jump a deer, move on to next area. If you can walk without kneeling, crawling, ducking, or stepping over crap, you’re in too open of woods.

go find deer. Learn the lay of the land. When you jump deer, note forecasted wind direction, time of day, and the direction the wind is actually blowing where the deer are. Put it in the notes of the pin you drop.

Don’t get in a tree. Don’t get in a tree. Don’t get in a tree.

walk all over. Find Deer. You’ll know when you’ve found enough to make sense to start hunting them.

This. I'm on a 13 year buck streak and this is exactly how I break down properties. You'll start to notice trends in a hurry.

Find a primary scrape. Figure out how to get in and out without spooking the deer. Then wait for a good wind direction during the first cold front in October. The second and 3rd weeks of October have been my best time to see the bigger bucks.

I shot a nice 11 point at 10am last year at this scrape chasing a doe.

I would keep it really simple and basic.
dont gee caughtup in all the youtube hype how to kill mature bucks crap.
Find the tracks in the food sources follow the tracks or sign back inti as far or close to bedding cover as you can.
make it and keep it simple.
bounce around in a few areas because deer change all year long. Thry use an area today and gone tomorrow.
just remember food and cover is everything.
pressure effects deer movements so consider pushing in further and further as the season goes on.
all the mature buck following is good tactics but is pretty advanced and ya really need to find the deer and read when and where they are using in the areas you hunt.
simplify it snd enjoy it shoot ehat you want when you want.
Dont sweat rut sign either to me on public alot of it is what i call fools gold.
Tracks leading to and from food is your starting point.
and do not hunt the open woods. Make sure you track or scout back to really good transition cover. Open woods is where evrryone else ends up hunting because there is a ton of rut sign and its most all night time sign.
again. Dont over think and simplify it
Food source, find fresh tracks, follow sign back to thick edge cover. Stay out of open woods. Please please please have fun and be safe.

Seems to have a lot of dead areas, but have seen some big rubs in there also .
I’ve seen huge rubs but they are what you call historic or years past. I’ve checked them with no new sign. I did see them pulling timber out of there this year which that may make some areas light up with activity. Only thing is it’s in obvious places. What do you guys think about getting together for a meet greet scout? I’ve already eliminated a lot of dead areas lol
