Speculative Theory/Wish - THP Public Challenge

they have a 5 part series called Mapping Whitetails that is probably the best education content I’ve seen on YouTube. Everyone has their tastes but I would encourage anyone to consume that before you write them off.
I'll give it a watch. I want to like them, but I just can't seem to relate. I love watching @WHW videos because I've seen deer slink around in those big, grey, hardwood swamp bottoms and tangled old cutovers. A lot of times he'll mention something that I've noticed, or say something that makes me slap my forehead, "why havent I picked up on that?"

There was one THP hunt where they went in by canoe and busted a big buck bedded on the bank (hurray alliteration). I enjoyed that. But a lot of the first season was ag land, which I just don't get access to down here.

Alabama is a turkey destination. Will Primos, Bill Jordan, Mike Waddell, Eddie Salters, and many others have owned land and filmed hunts here. We have excellent turkeys. Literally world class in some counties. I've seen multiple gobblers strutting like you see on films here many times, but I've never seen multiple bucks fighting in a field like you do on the same shows. There's a reason you had more success during turkey season than you did during deer season, and it probably ain't because of THP. You live in better turkey land than deer land.

You and I could go to Arkansas and murder ducks, and go to Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc and murder deer. Wouldnt make us good hunters. I have a good friend who was an "avid" hunter in Wisconsin and has shown me pics of several nice bucks, all bigger than anything I've killed. He gave up deer hunting after 3 seasons down here. He hunts once a year in Wisconsin with his family, and kills deer there.
Ask the tethrd guys how they faired coming to Arkansas and murdering ducks and they were on some of the best green timber in the world to hunt. Although that place gets stupid insane pressure, I know I hunt it too.

I don't watch very many hunting shows other than THP, Hunting Beast, and DIY Sportsman. In my opinion THP lays down some of the best footage out there that shows the hunt, their strategy, and pretty much shows what happens both good and bad. Those guys pretty much hunt everyday the whole season and are editing and producing videos within a few days of the action most of the time. Not many others are doing that. The last 2 years they have been hunting a variety of states from what I have seen. Since they all live in the midwest the always will have some more from that area as the travel is less.

I get why you are saying regarding the ag land hunts ( many in Iowa or Kansas) as they are entertainment but not realistic for most.

The public land challenge though is a different beast.

THP puts out a product that is in a space of its own right now. The other media outlets continue to push the same private land gig, and I just don’t understand who still watches it. It boggles my mind.

Northeast would be neat as it has some of the lowest “success” rates for hunting.

I don’t guess I have a favorite hunter but I have enjoyed learning from Dan Infalts stuff. I watched a lot of THP’s videos when they started out but not so much anymore. Some of the stuff they showed during the turkey tour I thought was not cool, like showing the number on the gate where they were hunting. I really like Dave Owens stuff. It’s really informative but he makes sure to not to give out any specifics on the places he’s hunting. It’s kind of a respect thing for the locals and not screwing yourself over either. I the THP almost got on some bucks on their last trip down to Alabama. It’s definitely a lot different than Iowa.

THP YouTube video today they said the Public Land Challenge is in PA this year. Hoping they come up this way (NE) would love to see how they tackle these thick mountain laurel swamps. Maybe they’ll do a public land bear challenge, that’d be even better - no bait no dogs and some of the biggest black bear in the country.

I wanna see em Hunt Florida. I’m in the Big Bend area and I hunt what I feel is the hardest bucks to kill in the county. People dog hunt primarily in our area and everyone hunts(nothing wrong with that, it’s very fun and family oriented and brings a lot of long-standing family traditions out every year). The deer are harassed year round and a 100” deer is a big deer for here. We occasionally get some in the high 120-140 but our average buck is way more educated than other western and midwestern states I’ve hunted. Makes the deer I hunt yearly in Ohio seen like tame deer. Not to mention it’s hot as hades in bow season. And I too love watching THP....reminds me of me and a few close buddies that hunt all over together.
