Spliced Eyes vs Knots

I'm working with WesSpur right now on getting sewn and hand spliced options for us in bulk. They are still doing testing on OpLux and 9mm-10mm HTP for sewn eyes. Got pricing on spliced Predator and it was pretty high so just getting sewn now. Was hoping to have this available way before now but taking a long time to get this together. If they can come up with a way to sew OpLux like Sterling does and retain high enough weight rating, I'll be able to offer a lot of options for guys.

Hell yeah

Thanks for working on this

If ur accepting input:
- 9’ total length
- 5” eye
- 2” eye

This can be used as a tether or LB & allows for hooking tag end of tether into biner as a back up

Having admitted defeat trying to do spliced eyes on Predator rope, I decided to try my hand at a stitched eye on the tail end of my tether. Worst case would be that I could easily undo it if not satisfied with no loss of rope. Or leave it in place of the stopper knot. We'll, in very little time, I had an eye that I have no fear trusting. I finished it with a Yale Whiplock at the base of the eye for added strength in that area to prevent any forces from trying to spread the two sides putting excessive force on those first few stitches. My last step will be to put heat shrink over the sewn area and whiplock. Sorry, I am not sending pictures. It's not pretty to look at but I have no doubt about it's strength. If I make a really pretty one after more practice, I may send pictures, then. So, if any of you are considering replacing knots with eyes on Predator rope, and want to go DIY to save money, I highly recommend it. You have to make your own call if you have trust issues in this method, but as for me, I am totally comfortable with the results. FYI, I watched a video where there was a spliced eye on one end and a stitched eye on the other. The stitched eye outlasted the spliced eye. The main thing is to be safe and only you can decide what makes you feel safe. Be your own judge.

If I want a eye spliced in predator rope I get Wesspur to do it and they will put what ever size eye you want.

Understood, but from what I've seen, it's $20-30 per eye. So, between tether (1), bridge (2), linesman (1), backup linesman (1), that's $100-150. I've already invested a bunch of cash into the entire system and need to save where I can. I think I even read that they also use a stitched eye, anyway, although I am not 100% sure on that. It's not difficult, so I would rather save the $$$. Not to mention, as I posted earlier, I don't want my gear between here and there during hunting season.

It's a $1.08 per foot and a hand spliced eye is 25 dollars a sewn eye is 15 dollars. So I bought a predator rope with a hand spliced tight eye from Wesspur and it was longer than Tethrd or Areohunter's linesman belt and it was cheaper .

Worst case is your sewing job fails and you fall. Sewn eyes are not randomly sewn, there is science behind it. If you don't know the proper technique for sewing the particular rope you are using, don't do it.

I really appreciate your concern. But, I have no doubt they're going to hold. I'm using what's called a "round stitch" by a fellow whose video I watched doing it. I'm also doing many more stitches over a longer length than he was doing. I'm using heavy whipping twine do do about 18 stitches per side. That's a total of about 72 thicknesses of the twine. And it also really compresses the two sides together which creates a huge amount of friction between the two sides. Then, I do a Yale Whiplock at the base of the eye. Then I apply adhesive backed heat shrink tube over the entire length of the stitching and beyond onto the single rope end and just beyond the Whiplock on the other end. Tested at ground level. There is no give and no way it's going anywhere, IMO. I will also keep an eye on it when using to make sure it's not changing in any way. I'm not telling anyone else what they should do or whether they should trust this method. But I would encourage anyone to do one if they're curious and test it however they see fit. Then decide for yourself. All I can say is that after doing a few of these, I have total faith that they will hold just fine. If I ever find out otherwise, I will not be afraid to come back and publicly eat my words.
