SRT question about belay

Carabiner size will have a very small impact. Another wrap would have a much more measurable impact. Its all about surface area baby.

Carabiner size will have no impact with a MR Safeguard. It’s not possible for the carabiner to touch the rope when it’s under load, especially if you’re using small diameter like OpLux.

I’ve made a recent update to my system that might help some of yall.

My mission has been get up and down the tree with what I already have - some biners, some 10mm dynamic rope, 6mm accessory cord, and a ropeman.

One stick up, easy. On the descent, “mega munter” or “super munter” using the same biner on my bridge, just removed the ropeman.

Instead of using a prussic (third hand) to “lock off” while I remove my ROS and stick, do a LEG WRAP!

take the tail, run it under your bum right to left, and wrap it around the left thigh three times being sure to cross over the first wrap. It holds you tight, and doesn’t require an $80 mechanical descender.

I’ll make a video later.

I would set aside a little money from my beer fund each week to eventually buy the descender. It is about convenience as well as avoiding a multi $80 hospital bill.

That’s valid, this isn’t the safest but I’m young, invincible, and have good insurance.
