Still working out a few details, but it appears I'll be hosting a podcast that will be affiliated with a prominent outdoor podcast network. We will dive in to all things outdoors, with an emphasis on all that Wisconsin has to offer. I hope to keep information relevant for much of the Midwest and beyond. I record my pilot in just a few days. That said, I need your help!

My first three guests are Bret Owsley from the WI DNR, Shane Simpson from Calling ALL Turkeys, and Patrick Durkin from pretty much anything that publishes articles about the outdoors. It's important to me that this podcast provides valuable information for the listener, and answers questions folks like YOU want answered. So, I thought I'd go straight to the source.

If you could ask each of these three guys ONE question, what would it be?

Fire away!

Question for Brett: ask him to explain the reasoning behind WI odd regs for packing out deer in 5 pieces

Shane Simpsons: Anything deer recovery story related. Love his Callie Chronicles videos.

If you could, ask Brett when they plan on posting the 2020 Turkey harvest numbers. I’ll be subscribing!
Here are actually a few topics ideas to ask Brett or whoever about:
- Wolf hunt and how they expect it to effect Turkey and deer populations
- did they see license sales increase/harvest increase for turkeys last year in Wisconsin due to covid.
- same covid question for deer. Specifically public land harvests.
- sturgeon: how the spearing season went this year and how their hatchery program is going.
- to continue on sturgeon hatchery, have they received any recent pushback to eliminate dams (specifically the Shawano paper mill dam) to let sturgeon spawn naturally.

I’m sure I’ll have more. If I think of anything, I’ll let you know.

Questions for Brett:

why doesn't the dnr ban deer baiting state wide?

Why all of the different deer seasons for different zones? Holiday hunt, etc.. I would hunt more locally but the regulations are just not standardized.

Question on calls... What is his favorite call? Easiest to use.

I recorded with Bret yesterday and didn't make it much past talking through public lands, DNR programs, and advice/resources for new outdoorsmen. BUT, he agreed to come on again soon, so I'll save most of these situational questions for that. Thanks for the help, guys!

Where can we find the podcast?

I'll let you know as soon as it is official. Yesterday's recording was just the pilot. That will go to the podcast network and then get a yes or no, sign the agreement, etc. If they don't pick it up, I'll be posting it independently somewhere else. Stay tuned!

I heard Shane Simpson in another podcast talkin about that he used to raise wild turkeys. I would like to know what it takes to get involved in that for restocking my own property and the woods that surround me. Not to mention I just think it would be cool to have wild turkeys in my yard. Specifically any specific permits that are required whether or not you need approval from state wildlife agency or federal agency and where to purchase poults from.

The podcast is live! The recording is a bit dated since it was from back in February. Took longer than I expected, but things are rolling. Check it out, subscribe, and leave a review if you can! Thanks guys! I look forward to hearing your feedback.
