Starting the Traditional Archery journey...again

You won't regret it! And thanks for bringing this thread back up. I enjoyed reliving the memory! I'll get a hold of you when I'm going to be at Lake Anna this summer and we can get together and do some shooting.
Sounds good buddy. A Samick Sage (thanks @Jefferson10940!) and a set of 40lb limbs (thanks @always89y!) should be arriving soon. Can't wait to see what this is all about!

Watched "The Push", a Tom Clum Kalamazoo seminar, and a Joel Turner clip already. I'm pretty excited :D

I'm still trying to wrap my skull around you having the time (with the new baby) to take on trad bowhunting. None the less, it warms my heart. I wish you all the best with everything new in your life.

I'm still trying to figure out how I could afford to buy trad bows for 22 kids (or whatever the number is now) when they wanted to come shoot with me!

I suck real bad at shooting Trad. bows and I have three of them, had one for fifty years. How or do you ever know if you have a good bow. I'm sure it is just my skills but finding the right bow seems tuff and even worst when just starting.

I have posted recently in some other threads about getting back into Traditional Archery after being away for almost 20 years. I grew up shooting and hunting with recurves because that is what my dad shot and built for many years. After I started college I quit bow hunting for about a decade. I got married shortly after college and once my oldest son was old enough to start bow hunting I bought him and then eventually me a crossbow. Now that my younger son is old enough to hunt (he took his first deer with my crossbow this fall) it seemed like a good opportunity to hand my crossbow down to him and go back to my recurve.

My dad has been out of the traditional game for almost the same length of time but, he still has some gear scattered around his house so I stopped by this weekend to tune some arrows. By the end of the afternoon I not only had some arrows tuned but, I also came home with a leather quiver for my bow (the bow on the right and the first bow my dad built), the bow in the center which is a 40# bow my dad built and is an example of what his personal riser design/shape used to be, an old Bear Kodiak at 44# for my oldest son to shoot, a bow stringer, and a padded bow case. We also dug through his garage and found boxes of inserts/knocks, arrows of every spine and material, feathers, fletching jigs, feather choppers and about every other misc item you need for traditional archery. All in all it was a pretty good afternoon and just added to my excitement of getting back into Trad shooting. Funny thing is, even after finding all of that I still managed to spend $100 at 3 Rivers this morning.

Wow, that is too cool. What a great day yall had!

Been doing Trad for about 2.5 years now, just lots of fun, to add to the passion.. Still have a compound. This past spring I starting building wood arrows, the feel and quietness of shotting a wood arrow almost has to be felt, so cool. Goal is to try and tag a whitetail in the fall with wood arrows I built (bought raw arrow shafts), could not hunt last fall but two seasons back got a old 6-point first year out with a saddle and Longbow (Aluminum arrows), joy from that you would have thought I shot a Pope & Young. Maybe Ill post up some pic's of my current dozen of Doug-Firs in progress.
Ill note that first deer I shot using the tip (point on technique), now I am shooting completely instinctice, it will limit my max range this year but ok with that.

trad bows just have a cool factor appeal, but i'l sticking with the compount for now. hope you slock a giant on a trad only hunting day! (or well, any other day but... you know what i mean.)

I like traditional bows. They're fun to shoot and I even tried making a couple which turned out OK.

However, I'm not able to put the time in practicing to where I felt right hunting with it so it's compound for me.
