Steel carabiner recommendations

I’ve been wanting to switch from D-loop to a steep carabiner for my rappel rope/tether connection. I hate fiddling around with the threading but obviously can’t girth-hitch with a rappel rope. Does anyone have experience with this and can recommend a steel carabiner??

I use a steel Metolius. It’s heavy, but that heaviness also helps with rope retrieval.

Steel carabiners are quite heavy.

I recommend the Petzl oxan

You are on exactly the right track. I use this twisted carabiner from Kong. Compared to a quick link I simply love it. The twist keeps the lock sleeve away from the truck of the tree so it can’t be opened accidentally.
