connor has been hunting for 1 buck that only shows up every few days. yesterday evening the wind was bad. so he asked if we could go for a doe somewhere else. i was tired but told him we would, i had been seeing a few does about every evening. we went and was looking for a spot to set on the ground but there was a big hickory that was a perfect spot so i grabbed a stick ladder and climbing stand. i told him that i would put the climbing stand up for him and since i had my saddle i would hunt off of the ladder. we got up and got settled in, i had to set with 1 foot on a step. about 630 he stood up to get ready, right around 7 i seen him grab his bow and hook his release on. i was setting on the back side of the tree so i couldn't see anything but then i seen a big doe down in the edge of woods working her way up to us. she came out into the clearing about 10 yards from us but was working her way on out. she got past us allowing connor to draw back, as he did his bow bumped the climber and made a noise so she jumped and trotted a couple steps but stopped about 12 yards away.he shot and i seen his arrow go up to the fletching and my first though was high and a touch back but she was squirting blood all over. connor was worried but i watched it on the video camera and it didn't look as bad as i thought and i could tell he was a lot more excited after i told him it didn't look bad and i thought i heard her go down, I said a little prayer that the shot had been good and she went down quickly. i slowly started packing our set up and walked to where she was standing and i could see bubbles so i felt even better. we went and picked up my dad and gave her a little more time. we started tracking and had went about 20 yards and down over the hill i could see his nock blinking so we eased down there and there she layed. he was honestly just as excited as if he had shot a boone and crockett. we had a really good weekend,i shot 2 coyotes with my pistol Friday evening and connor his first doe with a bow sat evening, now hopefully he has some more confidence and can get the buck he has been after to cooperate because he has hunted hard and really tried to prepare before season. im really proud of the hunter he has become i didn't have to tell him anything he knew when to move and was able to do it all by his self, it really makes me happy to see just how passionate he is becoming about not only hunting but the outdoors in general. all of the preseason stuff, food plots, and just everything that goes with the actual hunt. This is my first year using a saddle and so far I love it, this hunt the saddle really came in handy.

Impressive! Way to go Connor! If he stays at it, he will get the buck he's after.
